As someone who has actually received a notice for illegally distributing a game (ie uploading on DC++), the letter comes from the ESA and all they do is direct your ISP to tell you that if you remove all copies of the file, they won't push things any further. There is no request for information, nor is there any further legal action if you get rid of it. Once you tell your ISP (or the ESA directly if they e-mailed him) that you removed it, things should be fine.
