Yeah, and I wish people would stop speeding*. But the punishment for speeding shouldn't be death. The penalty for this crap is outrageous. $222,000 for 24 songs? Are you shitty me?

*I love speeding. :)

Yeah they need better laws. If you caught me with 10 downloaded songs, gimme a couple hundred dollar fine and be done with it. Its theft, same as stealing a cd from the store.

But nope, they want to claim that its the same as stealing from a B&M store, but then impose the fines associated with copyright infringement. Can't have it both ways.

WTF?

I put every cd I buy into my computer

1. Buy CD
2. Burn 2 copies
3. Import into iTunes or convert to mp3
4. Store CD in case shit happens to my copies

Unfortunately for you, you are breaking the law.

I wish artists would take the time to put something worth buying together and make me want to buy it.. When 90% of the songs on 90% of albums put out are trash why should we be forced to pay for it?

At least iTunes has the alternative to buy single songs.... be nice if they were in a format that you could use for whatever listening purposes you wanted without having to find conversion programs / pay for conversion programs.

Bad argument. If you don't like the music, why would you want to listen to it whether you paid or it was free?

As for converting, dBpoweramp is free - but be aware that going from one lossy codec to another (eg. aac -> mp3) will result in a song that sounds worse than either if it were encoded from the CD.

Real things that would encourage people to buy music include:
- Discounts. No brick & mortar stores, no physical medium... so why's it cost the same?
- FLAC. I'm not paying for 128kb music. Even 320 doesn't give me the freedom a CD does.
- No DRM.
- Dynamic Range. Remember that? I do...

Why, there's plenty of good, free legal music out there. Why give life support to a failing sector of the music industry? I advocate get the free downloads and go listen to your favorite bands live.

Music is music, lots of good stuff out there that isn't property of the RIAA. People have been sucking off the bitter RIAA tit for too long. Time to wean yourselves off of it.

It couldn't be that you:
-charged too much for a crappy product
-took too long to come out with digital media
-locked down the digital media to the point that its nearly unusable
-focused more on teeny-boppers with 1 hit song than getting quality music.

yeap.

I hate buying a CD for ONE good song with 14 filler crap songs and then chargeing me $16-25 for it! fuck you. not doing it and haven't for years.

digital media is fine. IF they allowed you to make a MP3 (or whatever) of your CD and none of this DRM shit.

i also don't steal music. but to be honest i also don't have much care if someone else does. the RIAA is stealing money from people with these lawsuits so i don't have any sympathy for them.

I would love to see the Goverment really look at what some business's are doing. but they won't since they are in there pockets.

im glad that ip enforcment bill didnt pass. all we need is RIAA police. ugh next step would be riaa courts lol

I wish that bands could/would release an album digitally for $5-10 without a major label involved. Even if they sold half the amount of albums they would still make more money. On a $15 album they only make $1 anyways.

9-27-2008 Senate Creates Copyright Czar

The Senate has passed a piece of legislation called the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights Act which creates a new position in the government for a copyright czar.

The new copyright czar will oversee government anti-piracy crackdowns and, among other things, train other countries about IP enforcement.

The copyright czar is also tasked with creating a nationwide plan to combat piracy.

I will when I can do what i want with the tracks purchased. No crippled DRM laden CD and digital downloads. And the price needs to come down on digital downloads. After all, Im not getting a physical cd, case, booklet, artwork, liner notes, lyrics and they arent paying for shipping and store shelf space

this

There are no DRM restrictions on MP3s from Amazon.com. You can purchase tracks for less than 99cents each if your purchase an entire album and a dollar for a track is more than reasonable in my opinion.

So somebody who thinks people shouldn't put up with spyware and DRM rootkits screwing up their computers should get out of America?

** Although my 5 minutes of google and visits to the EFF can neither confirm nor deny my suspicions. Regardless, if an artist has a problem with me copying a cd that I have already purchased from them, for the purposes of preserving said cd, that artist can go fuck themself.

While I agree with your sentiment, I'm pretty sure it is technically illegal.

Technically I think it's illegal, as you would be making a copy of the music w/out the owner's consent, but the RIAA would never be stupid enough to take a person to court over ripping CDs to their computer for personal use. They did try to get a guy on it in a file sharing case, though (he ripped CDs to his computer, and then shared the files on a P2P network).

I wish the RIAA would stop sueing for 10's of thousands of dollars per crappy song that shouldn't cost more than 1/2 to 1 dollar.

I wish the artists got more than a few cents per every song sold for a dollar as well.
