What we all need to do is to explain to all your friends and family what the RIAA is and what they do and tell them not to buy cd's on that day.

If only message board and heavy internet users boycott them it will do no good.

I'm waiting for that Apple MP3 store to come to Windows, than I'll get that, until then I don't buy CD's or download MP3s. CD's are outrageously expensive, why pay more for a CD than DVD, when a DVD has 5 hours of content, and a CD 45 minutes at most. Thats ridiculous, and you can rent DVD's too, when was the last time you saw a CD for rent?

Another idea, don't download music, get a TV tuner card and record music videos! Wait, the only music on TV sucks, o well, a good plan anyway. That can't be illegal, because then radio's with tape recorders would be too.

I wish more artists can sell their CD directly or download high bitrate MP3.

Last time I bought a CD was at a bar... the band was excellent. I purchased a CD from them at the end of one of their sets "to help support good music," I told the guy. Then I said to him... "but, once you make it big time and are living in a 40 room mansion, I'm going to just download your stuff from the internet."

Just wondering, does the Riaa get any profit at all from stores like the Apple music stores? I would assume that Apple would still have to buy licenses etc.? how does that work

I'd love to help here, but 1. I never shop on black friday and 2. I haven't bought a CD in over 6 months (used to buy 2-6 per month) and have no intention of buying any CD's soon.

Actually, they might end up making more money... Honestly, who the hell thinks to themselves, "I'm going to buy a CD on Black Friday." But with tons and tons of people saying to themselves, "Don't buy a CD on Black Friday, don't buy a CD on black friday, don't but a CD on black friday..." well, guess what they're going to want to do? Buy a CD. And even if they don't buy it on Friday, guess what they're going to do on Saturday.

It's a noble idea. The RIAA can go to hell. But if you really, really want to put the final nail in their coffin, develop a P2P app with end to end encryption (like Freenet only not crappy). The music industry is in some serious trouble with or without this boycott either way. I like the idea of the iTunes music store.... but god, I hate the RIAA.

That being said, I won't be buying a CD on black friday. But then again, I haven't bought a CD in over 6 months. I honestly think the idea of the album as a piece of art is a dated way to distribute music.

Count me in, I haven't bought a CD in, oh, a while. And the last few I bought were classical ones for our daughter.

Seems to me you ought to not buy any the entire holiday season. One day won't hurt them, I doubt they would even notice. The music stores would, but those bastards will never know. You need to figure out a way to have the cds start to pile up in the warehouses, then they will squirm.

Wouldn't boycotting on Black Friday be the worst day to do it? I mean thats when they expect the most CD's to be sold, therefore they reduce the price to sell more, they are making less per CD. Just because you don't buy the CD on Black Friday doesn't mean you're never going to buy it. If you don't buy it on Black Friday that means that you will be paying more for it than what you could have gotten it for on Black Friday, therefore you are giving them more money.

or am I just an idiot?

Don't buy a CD this year. If you do buy one, buy USED, in store or online from Half.com, eBay, etc.
