Rhode Island: Legalized Prostitution

Spooner

Lifer
It still amazes me that my home state has a loophole in the law that allows prostitution even to this day

what amazes me even more that there is a large group vehemently protesting the bill to overturn it legal status

Why?

What exactly is wrong with prostitution? Is it a moral issue? All men pay for sex, some with money, others with dinner. Most men go after women for sex when they have no intent of ever having a real relationship with them.

Is it a public safety issue? Easy enough to fix.

Properly regulated, prostitution could make a state tons of money. Not only do you eliminate all the time spent tracking and arresting people for victimless crimes, you gain tax revenue, licensing fees, and create jobs.

*edit, my comment was targeted to the OP, not the guy above me.

The mob has a very strong foothold in this adult industry in RI(ie providence) for some time now. It is highly unlikely this is going to change anytime soon.

I totally agree with you. Making prostitution legal would, like you said, create jobs, create tax revenue, and generally make the practice safer (health-wise and crime-wise).

don't get me wrong, i don't have a moral objection to it one bit at all; i'm saying that if you poll the general population, i'm sure you'll find the overwhelming opposite opinion... especially when you roll it out to those red states

Representative Joanne Giannini: ?We don?t want to be known as the only state in the nation that has legal prostitution.??

Ummm.... NV? (Granted, not in every county, but it's a state with legal prostitution.)

And wouldn't it be better than being known for... uh... what are they known for?

Selling is legal. Fscking is legal. Why isn't selling fscking legal?

In a nation where we allow abortions and kill people for tennis shoes why is prostitution a big deal? If some dude wants to get his wick licked by some toothless lot lizard, let him.

Once they finish opening up that 16yo loophole I foresee an AT mass migration to RI.

loophole in texas where a 12yr old girl was stripping full nude.
and it was LEGAL till the state legislature passed a bill this year

Melanie Shapiro, a former student of Hughes?s and a cofounder of Citizens Against Trafficking, has extensively surveyed the brothels, identifying their locations, documenting the conditions under which their workers live, and tracking what johns say about the services performed at various spas.

After I read this, I was expecting a link to a review. 🙁

I think Family Guy is set there. That's about it.

Where in RI are you? I'm South County. 🙂

I grew up in Newport. Well, Middletown to be exact, a few blocks from the naval base.

And to think my family moved away from that. I'm gonna have to ask my dad what the hell he was thinking.
