RG-1000 incompatable with win XP?

I have two lap tops that are exactly the same hardware config, and a dell rebranded lucent technologies RG-1000 access point. One runs Win2k, and can connect fine, and the other runs win xp, and can connect, but gives me this B.S. about limited access due to the fact that the AP didn't assign the wireless card an IP. WTF is up with that, and how can I fix it?
