rewire the laptops's power supply?

my gateway died. the cord is fine. it's just not charging the batteries. without the batteries, the laptop wont even turn on. apparently im not the only one. worsebuy wanted $200 for the repair, when a new one is like $300!
anyone know where i can find schematics? i think resoddering some connections or rewiring should resolve this issue.
 
Chances are the connecto that the powetr cable plugs into has broken its solder joins. If you can solder just open up the laptop and reheat the solder joints and that should fix it. Unless there is a problem with the power brick or the internal power cuircuits.
