It's been a few years since I've seen Doc Hollywood and I've always enjoy MJF's work so I decide to watch it again. Throughout the movie I noticed not only the main theme is similar but many of the plot elements were too. I'll list them below.

*Both had a big town hotshot going to California
*Both gets veered off the main interstate and find themselves in a small town
*Both damage property there and is forced by the judge to stay and perform community service against their will
*In both the new guy thinks that since he's younger and smarter that he's better than others (Lightening losing race to Doc and MJF misdiagnoses a kid as having a heart problem when local doctor tells him otherwise)
*Both fall for the female lead and both females use to be from a big city
*Both start getting attached to the locals and doesn't want to leave but is kind of forced to
*Both leave but returns because of love interest

I don't remember Pixar giving any credits to some of the ideas from Doc Hollywood. I'm not saying it's blantant rip off but I do think there are way too many similarities to be coincidental.

I could probably name a dozen or so movies that follow the same storline.

This happens all the time. Theres rarely original stories in hollywood, just rehashed versions using different scenery. But most people dont read into the movie enough, so they never notice.

Have you ever noticed Star Wars is basically a rehash of Camelot?

I'm pretty sure the "big city hotshot meets small town charm and is won over" storyline has been used countless times in many movies before and since Doc Hollywood. And considering no stories are really "new" and are just the same ideas rehashed and rewritten. I doubt Cars copied Doc Hollywood in any way.

Also in cars he destroys/messes up the public road. In Doc Hollywood its his own car that is messed up.

Actually he drove through the local judge's newly built and painted fence.
