Hi.

I've mentioned this little genius German freeware before on this site, always when discussing my internal backup strategy.

But it is so wonderful, I felt it deserved a stand alone heads up, as I wouldn't want anyone who can profit from using it to miss out.

This app (I am now using the 64-bit version), with one mouseclick, puts yr backup drive to sleep (or, wakes it up). My drives still all SATA platter drives. So, when sleeping, usually for the duration I am booted into my main drive, my backup drive just does not spin, nor does it show up in My Computer.

I do, tho, make sure I wake up the backup drive just before shutting the system down. I think it confuses Windows less.

Try it! I think you will like it a lot!

Love it! I have an SSD and then a storage drive, but the storage drive is the loudest part of my system. I rarely need to access my storage drive (only if I'm going to watch a movie or edit some photos or something), so I can keep it spun down until the time comes when I actually do need it! Works way better than the power options idle timer, because the drive spins up somewhat regularly depending on the programs you're using or if you get a save as dialog or something.

:thumbsup: One of the best freewares I evah came upon!!!!! I am amazed it's still free. I think it's totally thrilling.()🙂
And U bet, unlike trying to use Windows lame option, with this, you are in charge of the sleeping and the waking.

Edit: this must be one of the most beautifully, meticulously, intelligently engineered sites in the world. At least, I would guess. But one thing is missing: an animated leaping, applauding smilie. Or sumthin like the smiling, rotating sun smillie on Skype.
