They should remake MGS1... again. The gamecube one was meh. Just use shadow moses from MGS4!

I'd love to see an FF7 remake but the charm would be lost (some things only work in chibi). I fear the japs will go out of their way to make Cloud emo from the beginning. He didn't turn emo until late in the game! And he became fine at the end. No more emo Cloud please!

I want a full 3D remake of FFVI. That'd be epic.

Well, they're doing FFIV for DS, so maybe just give it time.

They already did ;)

Playing it now, my friend :)

In an odd coincidence, on X-Play last night one of the pre-commercial segments said "Which game do you think should be remade?" and the first one they listed was FFVI :D

A modernized FFVI = WMK!

If they did a remake i would prefer if they didn't add voices in. I don't like the voices they used in advent children. The materia system definitely needs to stay but i think just expanding on to it and changing some damage levels to certain materia would help out the game play a lot. In my opinion i always felt that ff7 was a little easy and even ruby weapon isn't that hard once u find out the method to beating him. Tweaking some of the characters damage levels and skills could help make some of them worth playing with as well. I wouldn't mess with the story or the music/sound effects.

Some other stuff they could do might be to expand on the choco racing and expand more onto the mini games as well. A cool feature would be to add a multiplayer component to it. Being able to to take your best 3 characters and being able to fight someone else 3 best characters online. The battles could take place in the battle arena in gold saucer. I think making sephiroth a little bit harder to kill would be a good decision. If you got knights of the round then he is very easy to beat. Going along with that it wouldn't hurt to add more end game stuff in. Like maybe a few more weapons to fight. Also a new area with harder monsters to fight. Taking your characters to level 99 is grueling process. If they do end up making a remake they should have a special edition disc with interviews from the designers and staff from both the original ps1 game and the remake team.

Yes, but for all the effort it took to get it was just about right.

One of the hard things about going back and trying "never played" older games after getting used to newer games with better graphics and now high definition on PS3 and Xbox360 is the older games can graphically look so crude that it's hard to get past that and enjoy the game play.

I think if SquareEnix redid some of their FF games onto the PS3 and Xbox360, they would capture a new bunch of people who would like to play those games and not be turned off by the crude graphics.

---

Speaking of the "Xeno" series, I have always wanted to try one of those out just to see. I think I'd have to plug the PS2 into my tube TV or else it's going to look way too crude on my Hi Def unfortunately.

sucks for you.

games are good because they're well made, not so much b/c of the eye candy.

Hell, I could prolly still play a few NES emulated games b/c they kick ass, even today, compared to the weak content in most of the stuff the developers expect 60 bones in compensation.

Duck Tales, anyone? ;)

Given what you wrote just above this, you're going to hate Xenosaga. They are some of the most passive video games you can play. That's almost refreshing after some of the crazier, action-packed stuff, but it's definitely not for everyone.

XenoSaga was epic Failure for a game. one disc of interesting console-style RPG, ...then a second disc of text. push button, little character models in the corner, black, text. push x, continue reading. for hours. Couldn't finish it, no reason to.

what a bunch of BS.

Yeah Ducktales!!! I completely forgot how much time I put into that way way back. I never got past xenogears because the discs were defective and only one store had it! For some reason PS1 games look so terrible, but NES and SNES games look fine after all this time. That doesn't make any sense to me. I just got Tales of Vesperia and it feels like the best RPG I have played since FF7. Reminds me a lot of how I could just sit there for hours trying to get the story going along and grinding more money and levels out of the characters. There was something really special about FF7 and FF3 to me because of that.

i think that the latter FF games got more about looks, graphics, tellling a story then about the game.

FF 1-6 were great (6 is still teh best RPG i have played). 7 was good never played 8 and just finished 9.

10 seemed like it was more FMV then anything. seemed every few minutes was a new FMV. haven tried any past 10.

1-6 were good. But 7 was even better, imo it's the first one that make me feel the game is epic.

10 is the first one that have voice in it. Imo, it brought the story telling element to a newer level, and I really do like the story too.

Can't complain about graphic, because that's just the general evolution of gaming. As for telling a story, that's what rpg is mainly about. Not saying game play isn't important, but if I have to rank, I would say the story would rank first above all.

This is my fav. game of that generation. I loved the characters, story, music, everything...pretty much. Then, there was the casino and chocobo raising and racing and finding all of those big bosses to fight(can't remember what they're called).

Ruby and Emerald

I had leveled Aries and when she died I saw rumors on ways to bring her back. All that wasted time scouring the Internet for nothing.

yeah, that's the problems with the newer ones. Too much eye candy, and attempts to streamline the interface, which, imo, ruins what a lot of people have always loved about FF (those that have been playing since FF1 was new, at least). I did like X, which I think had the best battle system. The ability to quickly rotate a backline player in for one hit was great. Added a new level to what was becoming a stale type of strategy. While Auron was great, the rest of the characters, and especially the voice work and writing was horrible. Kind of makes it hard to play. And, I'm freaking sick of these pre-teen emo dipshits that they are using for main characters.

For my money, FF2 (US, SNES vers) is still the best overall; considering what it introduced, how great a leap it was from the previous. It's basically the template for what people know, and expect from FF. Great story, too. well...at least when I was 12...
I like 3 a lot, but maybe too many characters? I actually like how 2 forces your party members. While the choice for customization is great with 3, I think it gets too complicated. Just about anyone becomes comfortable with their primary team, with maybe 2 characters that they regularly rotate in. That leaves a lot choice wasted, and kind of cumbersome if you fell like you need to level everyone up.
