Revision 2 Macbook?

memo

So I've heard from a lot of mac enthused friends to "wait for the 2nd rev of apple products". It always makes sense to wait. So typically how long does it take for a 2nd rev to come out? 6 months? a year? I know it all depends of a myriad of things but is there a good ballpark number?

Also, if I do take the leap and buy the 1st gen aluminum macbook, has there been anything else out there besides that battery cover issue that could be problematic? I been reading the reviews and there doesn't seem to be many show stoppers right now.

Depends on the model, but usually about 6 months I'd say. There's a website that has product cycles listed. Sometimes it's as early as 3-4 months and in the case of the Mac Mini as long as a year or two.

So far it looks like the battery cover fit issue is the only major problem reported, and it doesn't seem that widespread. While the design is new, they have been using the Macbook Air for awhile with the same keyboard, pretty much the same hardware guts, and an LED screen, so really it's a product shift or evolution rather than an entirely new product.

well, there's the touchpad click issue it seems. I was wondering if something like this would happen... it just reminded me of the mighty mouse that is terrible at picking up right/left clicks. But the touchpad thing supposedly will have a software fix coming soon

I think they should have ditched the "click" entirely and just left it at "tap" 😛

I don't understand the touchpad click issue. What is supposed to be happening because I haven't had problems with mine.

apparently the touchpad doesn't respond after a while, and takes 4 or 5 clicks to come back again. I don't have one, so I can't comment.

As for waiting for the second rev, what I generally do is wait 4-6 weeks for the early issues to shake out (touchpad issue, cracking, discoloration, bad screen, whatever) and see if any of them are dealbreakers for me. If not, I'll go ahead and buy, but I'd also get the AppleCare (for a notebook) and go from there.

I've had a couple problems with my Merom Macbook Pro, but it's all been covered by AppleCare so no real issues at all.

NO! I hate having to tap the trackpad, I always accidentally hit it when I don't mean to, and then I'm dragging windows across the screen. Ugh.. 🙂
