Review Phenoms Clocked Higher Than Production

"We tested at a 2.3GHz core clock with a 2.0GHz north bridge clock, because AMD told us those speeds were representative of the Phenom 9600. Our production samples of the Phenom 9500 and 9600, however, have north bridge clocks of 1.8GHz. We've already confirmed lower scores in some benchmarks.

Given everything we've learned in the past few days, our review clearly overstates Phenom 9600 performance, as do (more likely than not) other reviews of the product."

Oh, and the 9500 and 9600 cpu's are not being fixed, they are being replaced by the 9550 and 9650.

Gotta love it. Still shipping the buggy desktop chips to consumers -- those guys don't read enthusiast forums, they have no idea the latest and greatest isn't all that. They'll buy that inventory and be happy.

At least until the smarmy kid next door points them to 'all over the web' news re: their shiny new Phenom-powered Dell being an overpriced turd.

AMD really needs to catch a break and soon. I don't miss the days of $600 Intel CPUs (or a more recent example, $300 low end AMD dual core CPUs) that happen when there's no viable competition.

AMD spokesman Phil Hughes told us the TLB issue has been designated errata number 298. When questioned about when AMD would update its technical documentation to include the erratum, Saucier said the person responsible for the updates is "on vacation," although he expects an update "by the end of the year."

We are so sorry we didn't tell you about the problem that everyone in the company, including the PR people seems to intimately know... you see, the person whose job it is to tell you that is "on vacation"

Yeah, AMD has tens of thousands of employees, only ONE of whoms' job it is to document chip errata. And that person doesn't have a backup for when they are not in the office.

That's one f'ed up company Hector is running into the ground.
