UPDATE: Thanks for the replies, after some more research I think I've settled on the final parts:

ASRock M3A770DE $60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157176

Sapphire Radeon HD4850 $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102824

Corsair 400W PSU $50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008

Athlon X3 "Rana" 2.9GHZ Retail $75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103724

Crucial 4gb PC8500 DDR3 $97
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148150

Total is less than $400 to my door and $20 in rebates (if I ever get them). Just had a few other questions, would the Corsair 400w be enough to run that setup fine? (I Plan on unlocking the 4th core but not overclock). And is there a huge difference between PC8500 and PC10600 that I should pay the extra for it? Newegg has some Adata (I have never used that brand before) PC10600 for only $2-3 more. Would the Radeon HD 4770 be better card for this system than the 4850? ($105 for the 4770 or $85 for the 4850 with current newegg prices)

Primary uses again will be for gaming, BF2 bad company 2 and CoW:MW as well as starcraft II (if it ever releases). Resolution will be strictly 1280x1024. This rig is for my younger brother, so everything is coming out of my pocket, just looking at areas I may shave some extra cash. 😛 (does he really need 2gb of ram? I can save another $40-50)

Thanks!

1280x1024 resolution for most stuff, trying to bring some life into an older rig which is why I wanted a basic motherboard at a cheap price.

I don't think you should have any issues. I can't be 100% sure it won't bottleneck, but I'm pretty sure it won't.

A 5850 won't even be bottle necked by 16x PCI-E 1.0, or at least significantly (> 1-2&#37😉

CPU is another story though . . .

A 4850 will never be held back noticeably by being limited to PCIe x16. Even a 5870 sees virtually no drop in performance.

What's infinitely more important is the rest of your system. You won't be held back by your lack of PCIe 2.0, but you could certainly be held back by your CPU. What CPU are you using? Though for a 4850, even a relatively slow dual core should be a good enough match.

The CPU will be a Athlon 64 X3 "rana" 2.9ghz retail chip. I plan on unlocking the 4th core.
