Damn this is the first time in a while that an XKCD comic is completely lost on me. Someone want to explain this one?

Edit - oh just saw the link above, thanks. But I still don't know what a polish sausage is  Oh well, I doubt it will get funny if someone explains it. We always called Polish notation "postfix notation", never heard of calling it polish.

What? This comic was put up like a week ago. Are ATOT time warps leaching into real life?

A Polish sausage is exactly what it sounds like; a sausage from Poland. It's kielbasa. Polish sausage typically isn't served on a bun, however; that's more traditional with American hot dogs (though many sausage vendors in the US do offer it prepared that way since Americans think all meats are better on buns).

Go to Costco, get a polish sausage from the food court, be enlightened for $1.50 with drink.

Okay, being polish, knowing most polish jokes, this one becomes lame.

Being an engineer, and following the clues regarding reverse polish notation, I sort of get it... though it's still lame. In fact, the only thing intriguing about it is the fact that it looks like a hot dog, and they had already put mustard on the sausage, rather than off to the side as another numeral or operator.

Everybody knows you don't put mustard on polish sausage.

Same. I am very happy that I don't get it.

Of course, now that people have explained that it has something to do with reverse Polish notation on old calculators, it went from "incomprehensible" to "makes a little sense but isn't funny."

You obviously don't appreciate the simple pleasure that is a Maxwell Street.
