The difference between Jeremiah Wright and Pat Robertson is that one of them is black. The fact that Obama used to think highly of him does trouble me, as an Obama supporter. However, I think it's overboard to make the ludicrous claim that anything Wright says may as well have been said by Obama. First of all, they're two different people. Secondly, Obama did at least cut off ties with him. I know he did it when it was politically prudent to do so, but the fact remains that he no longer has a connection with Wright, so continuing to pretend like Obama agrees with everything Wright says is just stupid.

Obama is a pretty religious guy, though, so I don't know. I'm totally non-religious so I don't understand the relationship between a person and his pastor.

Weren't the Jews some of the most strident advocates of civil rights for Blacks during the Civil Rights movement? In that case, it is rather sad that the Black Community seems to be anti-Jewish. The Jewish people have always been hated for various reasons I'll never fully understand and even today a great many Americans hate them. I'm not sure exactly why, but I spend a large amount of time playing online multiplayer games and you can often find people using anti-Jewish player names or casually talking, using the word Jew as a verb to mean cheating or unethical behavior. Perhaps it's because Jewish people, especially the Ashkenazi Jews, tend to have higher than average IQs as well as tend to live rationally and responsibly, thus becoming financially and vocationally successful and that is why others are jealous and hateful of them?

I'm an atheist and an advocate of atheism and thus don't believe any of the religious stuff nor follow any religious practices. However, I do regard myself as being a "cultural Jew" since I was raised in a secular Jewish family of mostly agnostics. Ironically, as time goes on I find myself increasingly identifying with the Jewish people since I think Secular Judiasm is the most rational of the secular versions of all the religions and I feel badly about my kin having been unjustly persecuted for centuries. My reading of Leon Uris's excellent novel Exodus combined with my observations convinces me that the Jews need a homeland somewhere. I just wish it weren't in the Middle East on a tiny piece of God-foresaken desert land. Imagine what the Jews could do if they had, say, Columbia or even an African nation or better yet a U.S. state and didn't have to pour all of their resources into military defense.
