By most accounts, one white woman decided to confront Johnson Jan. 15 about her custom of double-parking along the traffic of cars picking up students at Wilde, in violation of school rules. The two women exchanged words and the dispute turned violent, and another white woman joined in.
Diane Wakefield, 47, and Christine Gusumano, 39, of Warren said that Johnson blocked Gusumano's van in front of the school. When Gusumano honked her car horn, Johnson became angry, and began yelling racial slurs and profanities at them, they testified. Wakefield said she then confronted Johnson about her parking and her language, and that Johnson physically assaulted her.
At the preliminary exam, Assistant Prosecutor James Biernat told 37th District Judge Sherman Faunce that some people who came to watch the hearing were threatening witnesses, prompting the judge to keep Warren police in the courtroom.
