Reusing a CoolerMaster HSF after removal?

I just removed the CoolerMaster HSF that I ordered from NewEgg with an AMD 1.2 cpu (266 and unlocked btw--boo)that went south after only a few days of work. The pink tape on the underside of the heatsink is missing a chunk of material that adhered to the processor. Should I remove that tape, or just put some of the Radioshack brand "goop" on and leave it at that.

I'm also confused about the tape, as well. Some people say you should take it off and just use the "goop" while others say to use both.

Finally, does anyone sell this tape?

If you're going to reuse the HSF remove the tape with acetone or something like that. I've heard WD-40 is good for removing that stuff too. Then apply your paste. Be sure you get the tape off of the HSF and the core of the CPU.

As everyone always says, Arctic Silver II would be much better to use that just standard white silicon goo.

BTW, if you're still planning on overclocking, you should get a better HSF than your coolermaster.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to get some AS II. I just hate paying the shipping on that stuff. Getting cheap in my old age.

I'm using the CoolerMaster b/c that/'s the HSF NewEgg recommended.
I'll shop around for another. I'd just hate to buy one that is too loud for my rattled nerves.

Thks again.

DO NOT use both. Especially with a hole in the pad/tape from the previous application.

You can also use something like Goo Gone or De Solv It to clean it off, and then clean again with some isopropyl alcohol to get the solvent residue off.
