Played Quake 2, Hexen, Heretic 2 on a Toshiba laptop back in the 90's. I probably made a mistake by selling my original CDs.

Looking to play now on a I7-4820K, 16gig ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and Sony 65" TV running at 3840x2160.

I am concerned about 90's games being played at that resolution. I tried one of my original games on an XP machine with a 1024x768 screen and it looked like hell.

What version of Quake should I get that will look good?

Well I've found that you can tweak Quake III Arena a bit and make it run HD and 120 fps. Haven't tested that though. Also I believe that there are some mods on that too. I mean for other Quake games.

And I'm pretty sure that there are lots of similar tweaks or mods on many of popular 90s PC games.

i think the early Quake games have all been fan-updated with high-rez texture packs; i played Quake Darkplaces which is a excellent remaster of Q1, with added mouselook, improved UI, new lighting, HD textures, etc, totally free and absolutely worth playing.

OK, bought a Quake 2 CD on eBay from a Goodwill store. A whopping $5.50. :)

Running the game at its max resolution give me a nice sized window on my 3840x2160 screen. I have a problem that rings a bell but I forget the answer. The mouse does not function in the window. It just disappears when moved into the Quake window.

Ideas?
