I have a hanns-g 191d. Widescreen, but I have decided to return it. I just can't look at it for very long. It very much feels like I am staring at my old monitor in 60hz. It is just hard to look at for any length of time.. the text is very hard to read. I find the monitor is much easier to read and stare at if I drop it down to 1280x960. But then of course everything looks stretched and assy.

Not sure what my prob is, but I guess it is back to 1024x768 on my old crt.
 
How long did you have it for? Did you tweak brightness?

LCD's dont flicker, if they do they are defective. It took me at least a week to get used to my first LCD
 
I have increased the font size. Honestly it looks to me just like my old crt at 60hz. I keep messing with the brightness and contrast, but cant get that feeling to go away. My eyes just are not happy at all. I am wondering if it is this bizarre 144x900 resolution. Either way I can't get over this buggy feeling. I find myself having to look away from my monitor at regular intervals to get that wierd flicky feeling gone.
 
what you are probably noticing is the flutter effect that was what i had... looking at like a solid color was more like looking at many colors sortof spinning and stuff

you have to get used to it

high contrast and a low brightness setting are usually best for a TN panel like yours... running things out of native res will cause your text to become VERY bad

You need time..

But why am I going to preach here, have fun with your CRT because im having a much better time since I moved on (and got used to).
 
YES many colors.. knda swimming.. yes.... that is what my prob is... so your saying I get used to it?
 
yup, takes a week or abit more (i dont remember how long it took me)

When i started my new job, i use a crt here and i started noticing that a little more when i would go home

but now im used to either which is strange
 
One thing to check..make sure u have Cleartype instead of standard

right click on desktop-->properties-->appearance-->effects-->
put a check in the box and select Cleartype as method to smooth edges
i am guessing you have it at standard

I hate cleartype. It makes everything look like sh*t. I use standard on this LCD screen.

As far as the swirling colors go, I have not clue, I never noticed anything like that on my LCD screen. Dell 1704FPT.

Probably some horrible dithering technique... Higher quality LCDs definitely won't have the problem. (Even low-quality ones shouldn't, but Hanns G is apparently a new low.) Make sure you're using DVI (not VGA) of course, but if so, the problem would be dithering.

not returning it.
Went to best buy and looked over all the monitors from cheap to expensive. What I see on this monitor is the same thing I see on all the monitors. So it is not this monitor.. it must be me.

Wonder though .. most of them were at a contrast of 30-40 and I am at a contrast of 70. Is my contrast way the heck to high?
 
you should be using a DVI connector whenever possible. It's white and has a bunch of flat pins in it. DVI connector doesn't allow you to choose contrast. Only brightness and color temperature.

That may make a difference. Monitors on display at retailers are only connected using a VGA connector. This connector is blue with round pins. VGA connectors create noise on the screen.

Check the following:

Is the LCD running at its native resolution? Check the settings on your video card. Also, if your video card is old, it may not support a good signal for that display.

Are you running on a DVI port or an analog 15-pin port? many cheaper LCDs don't do well displaying analog signals. (Samsung is an exception in many of their products.)

If your LCD is only an analog-based unit, take it back. It's probably crap anyway. Most cheap LCDs (I've been inflicted with them in the past) don't provide a DVI port and every one I've ever seen like this is garbage.

If your video card is fine but only supports 15-pin VGA, there's only one good option: Samsung.
With LCDs, it pays to spend a bit more for quality.
 
OK, I see you have DVI. that's good.

Make sure the LCD is at native. Sometimes Windows will not automatically display at the monitor's native resolution.

Every LCD monitor runs at 60 Hz. It's the nature of the beast. You just might be stuck with a lemon. With LCDs, it's best to stick with major brands (Samsung, Dell, NEC, ViewSonic) or second-tier (LG, Westinghouse). Anything else is a risk.

On my older samsung monitor i used a setting of 100 Contrast and 15 Brightness ... brightness i put up to 45 when gaming
 
Indeed, it is probably you. Don't take it the wrong way though, for about 2-3 months, it was all me too. Went from a crappy 15" with contrast and brightness turned down (personal choice) to super bright 17" LCD. My eyes got strained and hurt for the first month. After a month, it got better, but it wasn't until I got to month 3 that I finally realized 'hey, my eyes don't hurt anymore'.
 
w00t now I am using 1024x768 on my monitor because I am sending in my 7950 for step up. LOL. a bit stretchy but not bad!
actually looks kinda bitchin... minus the stretching.
