Returned my defective 6800U from earlier post and picked up an X800Pro

I'm in bliss right now. I can not hear my computer at all now. Before with the 6800U it was like a turbine engine was in my room. Now there is.......... complete silence. Its beautiful. Shame on me for switching to Nvidia after my 9800XT. I shall not forsake thee again ATI.

Oh and my average FPS in CS:Source beta is almost double then what I had with the 6800U, and since thats all I've been playing for the last month, its an added bonus 🙂

I'm guessing you post a lot at Rage3D 😛

I have used ATI my whole "computer life"...till i got my Leadtek 6800GT.
I kinda am sad i switched just as ATI came out with the improved Control Panel & new stuff...but i cannot complain about this baby i have now 😀

Twice the frames of an Ultra? Someone post the BS flag smiley.

In CS:Source, thats very possible, just as its possible to have a 6800U get double the fps as an X800 Pro in Doom 3. 😛
Possible as in an Alice in Wonderland Acid trip?

Nope, not possible at all. There is no benchmark, not even the ATi-slanted DriverHeaven benches, that substantiate that claim.

Well I run Source at 1284 x1028 4xAA 16xAF and I would run the net_graph 3 fps all the time on my Ultra while playing and average fps was 42-53 and tonight my average fps on this X800 was 82-91 so I dunno. All I know is Im extremely happy and glad to be rid of that hot hulking loud monstrosity.

I can't wait to get my hands on a X800XT PE when they hit retail around here 🙂

Well my Ultra wasn't beating my X800 pro in game while I was playing on my computer and thats all that matters to me.

Well, its a good 25 to 30% faster, then. ATI has the advantage in Source, Nvidia in Doom 3.
Are you thinking of the X800XTPE? The X800Pro did not even outperform the 6800GT, let alone the Ultra in CS:Source.

Hehe, he likes his purchase and it suits his needs. No need to get snippy. 😛

Let me guess: Driverheaven favors the ATI cards? NO! That would be the first time that ever happened.

Although I post/find value in user benchmarks, I've noticed my own often mirror the results of review sites?

I'm doubting an X800Pro gets double the frames of a 6800U at anything, on any computer, except maybe an ATI tech demo.

The 6800U outperforms the X800 Pro on every CS benchmark, up to 20X15 4X8x at CS Source, how is Compddd's getting double the framerates?

Wowee! Compddd's X800Pro runs CS almost twice as fast as the average Firing Squad got with an A64 3800!
Sure.

Obviously Compddd has some "user error" going on with his benchmarking, which doesn't surprise me given his "I will not forsake thee ATI" proclamation and "The X800Pro is TWICE as fast as my 6800U!" misinformation.

I'm off for a 5 day fishing trip, I'll respond to your flames and demands for a ban next Wednesday night. 😉

BTW- the site we're on posts benchmarks which disprove yours as well?

They use an FX53 as well? And you're getting much higher framerates with more AF?

Do you remember way back when, when you returned a "defective" 6800Ultra? I just wanted to remind you that you no longer have a 6800Ultra because it was "defective". Chances are that if there is any truth to your poor framerate using the 6800Ultra, it was because it was "defective". Your thread title says "defective". I am willing to bet that your current X800Pro is "not defective". Anyway, congratulations on your new X800Pro which is "not defective". Enjoy.

There are some points to consider here.
1) OP originally placed all blame on SW Battlefront for frying his 6800Ultra (NOT his ULTRA).
2) Most sites did not test with the new 4.10s, which obviously have some serious ops going vs. the 4.8s.
3) firingsquad and anandtech differ in their fps. Firingsquad at 1280/1024 give fps around 55-60 for both cards. Anandtech gives both cards between 80-87 at 1280/960. These benches are supposed to be intensive, so ingame play is likely higher.
4) Nvidia cards ALWAYS take a larger performance hit in AF. Going from 8X to 16X will no doubt close the 8-10% gap these sites are testing.

I don't doubt he's pushing 80's with the pro under these considerations. Faster ingame play, 4.10s, and anandtechs scores all argue for such a result. I am not so sure about the low score with his ultra, but I don't doubt that either since firingsquad would have put it at ~50 with 16xAF.
Something may have been up with that card as keys suggests. Who knows? But there is no need to start calling someone a liar.

Agreed. The 6800U is way better than the pro. Either he wasn't using the proper driversor is just trying to cause problems. There are no games where the Pro is faster than the U. The XT is a different story though.

Cmon cant we have a serious thread ONCE in a while and not just a thread causing trouble.

Where did he call him a liar? 😕 I just seem him facetiously pointing out that it's not in good form to compare the 2 cards since the Ultra was in all likelyhood never 100% from the time he got it.

Also, there are always exception to every rule 🙂 nV cards don't always take a bigger hit do they? Didn't the 6600GT do better with AA/AF than the X700 in most instances=exception to "ALWAYS"?
