Returned a 50" Vizio Plasma at Sam's Club

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but it sure was a great deal for me...

I bought a 50 inch Vizio plasma TV at Sam's Club about 8 months ago for a little over $2200.00. After 8 months, it was already getting burned in, which was very noticeable when watching a movie like 8 Below on wide screen. With all of the white background in that movie, the center of the screen had a yellow tinge to it (the area that normal TV is viewed). I wasn't too happy to have this happen after only 8 months, and I know that Vizio will not do anything about it. So I called Sam's and asked about their Satisfaction Guarantee, and they said to bring it in and they would replace it. I brought it in, and they gave me an upgraded model (the old one was pretty much just a monitor, this new one is also a tuner). While the girl was doing the paperwork for the return, she asked me how I wanted the refund. I really didn't think they were going to give me any money back, but they actually refunded the difference in price from 8 months ago, so I came out of the store with an upgraded, brand new TV and $622.00 in my pocket.

Even if you don't get a cash refund, if your Vizio is getting burned in, it's definitely worth doing this to get a new, upgraded TV. Call your local Sam's first to make sure they'll take it back.

nice! costco rules!
thats why my I am having my brother return his 11month old sceptre 37in LCD with a bad hdmi input... the hdmi port actually died a few months ago, but he wasnt willing to return the TV till he had a new one in hand (apparently he cant LIVE without a big TV now-lol), so he has ordered the 42in.

No way... it's a hot deal for everyone out there with an 8 month old burned in Vizio plasma that was purchased at Sam's Club who wants to exchange it for a newer model...

Wait, you mean I gotta go buy one first? I can't just walk in, get the upgraded model + $600???

Bah. Pass.

I have a 22" Sceptre that may have a bad HDMI port. I wonder how HDMI ports in general are in terms of fail rate. Good thing it's a Costco purchase as well. Costco is the only place I can be as lazy as I am in returning a bad product. Oh BTW, my Sceptre is horribly leaky in black background. Perhaps I should have went with a Viewsonic. I guess I will! I love Costco!

congrats, its nice that Sam's will stand behind the products they sell, even when the manufacturer won't

i had a 32" philips, took it back to costco got a 37" philips, took that back got a 42" vizio and $100 back, noice!

Geez, major burn-in after only 8 months on a recent generation plasma? What are you doing to cause that? I've had my Panasonic 42" for 4 years and there's not a sign of burn-in, and it's our main TV.

I also have a 50" Vizio plasma from Costco, and have experienced burn-in issues. There is a "screen scrubber" feature in the menu that helps get rid of most burn-in effects, so I don't think I'll be returning it. Our burn-in is mostly from my son's gamecube, and watching TV is 4:3 mode (we now always watch in widescreen, to prevent this). I paid $1700 for mine.
