i bought a pioneer receiver on the 14th of December. Currently, they're offering a $50 gift card with any purchase of $299 and up on receivers. I called and asked if i could return the unit seeing as i was three days past the (30 day) return date, not even mentioning that i was just going to get the adjustment for the gift card. She said i couldn't. Is there any chance a manager would allow me to return it if i said the unit was damaged and Pioneer told me to return it?

isn't that fraud?
Not that I care about the quality of your moral fiber, I'd do it too, but just in case you were worried about things like that...

Umm I doubt it. Best Buy has NEVER cared about customer service so the odds of you returning it is slim to none. If it is defective they will tell you to deal with Pioneer unless you bought one of their service plans.

hypothetically, would i be able to return it if it were damaged seeing as it's beyond the 30 day return policy? I'm sure Pioneer would rather have me return it to the store than mess with RMAing it.

I don't think Pioneer can authorize a store return.

If I were you and I really wanted this, I would just go into the store and talk to a manager. Tell him exactly what you want. Meaning: you just want to take advantage of the $50 GC offer they have. You don't want to bring it back or exchange for another unit.

Maybe you can sway him by telling him to look up your name in the system and see all the stuff you have bought from them in the past.

No. Best Buy has a 30 day grace period. You missed that and are s.o.l.

Just be nice and say you had a serious problem with the product, and that this is the second time with the same receiver you're buying from BestBuy. Tell them you will be happy to buy ANOTHER receiver from them from a different brand (whether that's true or not). Tell them you simply want the store credit, not your money back. Don't be pushy first, but start getting loud if they give you problems :)

Chances are 9/10 that I would succeed :)

All products bought from November 1 through December 24th qualify for the holiday return policy which ends on January 25th. This information should be at the bottom of your receipt. Simply take it in and either have them price match you the $50 gift car or return and rebuy the same unit. Piece of cake!
