Retrieving data from older (internal) EIDE hard Drives

Hello,

My 6 year-old Barton-based (I know it's old but it lasted 6 years) desktop just died but my HDs seem to be intact. I replaced the old system with a Dell D630 and a docking station. Now I wish to retrieve as much (if not all) of the data off of my old WD2500JB (250GB WD EIDE) and Diamondmax Plus 9 (160 GB ATA/133 Maxtor).

I have done some research and have come up with at least two products that I THINK will allow me to power the drives and interface them with the USB 2.0 ports on the D 630. These are:

SYBA SY-U2SAIDE USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter

and

EIDE/ATA enclosure on ebay

Will either of these do the trick for saving my data? If not, please recommend a better alternative.

Thank you so much ...

Why not just plug in the drives (one at a time) directly onto the new motherboard via IDE cable and boot with them as secondary drives? You can then just copy off the data you want.

EDIT: Duurr...laptop, right? Just read your post closer. Just get the Syba and you're gtg.

You are correct, a Latitude D630. Thanks for the advice. It's funny, whatever I buy I will use for a VERY short time only and then it will sit in a box for the rest of it's useful life. I only need a "solution" for an hour or two ... just enough time to copy the data off.

I keep a IDE to USB adapter for just this reason, plus it allows me to use old IDE drives as external storage drives.
