ONE MAN'S MISSION TO RETRIEVE OSAMA BIN LADEN

One man's 'psychotic' mission to retrieve bin Laden's body

Is the truth down there? That's what deep-sea treasure hunter Bill Warren wants to find out by trolling the Arabian Sea for the terrorist's remains

posted on June 14, 2011, at 10:01 AM

Southern California salvage diver Bill Warren says he's embarking on his most ambitious hunt yet for undersea treasure: The corpse of Osama bin Laden. Warren, who has successfully discovered some 150 shipwrecks, says he'll spend at least two weeks scouring the floor of the North Arabian Sea for bin Laden's body, at a cost of $11,000 a day. Since President Obama won't release photos of bin Laden's corpse, Warren says, he's taking it upon himself to photograph the body and get DNA samples to share with the world. Here, a brief guide to Warren's odyssey:

What's Warren's plan?

Warren says he is renting a ship in India, which will be outfitted with sonar and other specialty equipment, and a remote-operated submarine. If he finds bin Laden's body, the sub would bring it up to the boat for documentation. Even though the remains have been at the bottom of the sea since May 2, they would still be well preserved "in a sealed Navy burial bag, zipped up, white canvas, rubber-lined inside, 200 lbs. of lead weight," Warren says.

I submit the above article as a humble submission to the "..just when you think people can't get any more stupid..." file.

Does this guy *really* think he has a snowball's chance of finding a body bag at the bottom of the Arabian Sea?

...not to mention the ROFL~worthy:

Warren says he's just a "patriotic American who wants to know the truth," and share it with a skeptical world. But he also "thinks he can still collect the government reward" of $25 million, since it's for finding bin Laden "dead or alive," says Joe Coscarelli at The Village Voice.

Well - At least the guy was kind enough to brighten my Tuesday... :D

He'll go out and troll for two weeks, find nothing and then declare the whole Bin Laden assasination as a hoax... and he can 'prove' it.

Interesting. As hard as it would be to find, wouldn't someone who has found 150+ shipwrecks know the difficulties and if it is realistic at all? Maybe it is just a PR stunt, I find the $25 million reward line especially lulz worthy.

What I am wondering, does 200 pounds of lead in a 3X8 foot area present a signature for sonar or other technology? Does that much lead become a beacon if one has the right tools, time, and money?

I bet he won't ever be found, this is all a PR stunt.

i think he's got a shot, he's just gotta know where the carl vinson was on may 2nd and search tens? hundreds? of square miles around there.

but i bet there's some navy ships there that won't let him near the area

I dunno, that is an awfully large area and any navy ships would just help him narrow down the area, assuming it wasn't a false flag op. But I think it comes down to what kind of signature 200 pounds of lead gives off, combined with time and money.

You would think the US Navy would have taken the lead into account, and if it was a potential beacon of sorts, used rock/cement instead.

I can't imagine why this fool thinks he is being a patriotic American by doing this. Let's assume he is successful and locates the body-what will be the result? Almost certainly a jihad type campaign to recover the body and build a temple to it somewhere for the faithful AQ.

Recovery of the body would be a win-win-win for AQ and a long term deteriment to the USA.

Personally I've always thought the burial of OBL at sea was a brilliant solution to a tough problem-one that this idiot wants to undo for his personal glory.

The perfect excuse to get a way for the wife for two weeks and have crazy orgies at sea.

it wouldn't surprise me if the navy filmed the body sliding into the sea, quickly dragged it out, and sent the corpse through a chipper or something

Would not surprise me either. Or if he was buried at sea, in an area entirely different than what was said. I say let him be, the killing of OBL was a closure of sorts for the US and this is merely a self serving mission for the salvager.

Is it even possible for DNA to exist still?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If OBL is buried at a depth under 2000 feet, the ocean floor temps will be close to 39.4 F
which will tend to greatly slow decomposition. That and the lack of oxygen could keep the DNA traceable for many years.

But I suspect the searcher is a fool, unless he can pin point the exact location where Bin Laden's body was dropped, he could spend millions and likely find nothing.

Should look for Jesus too. Should prove equally impossible to find.

Hey guys... Let's kill Bin Laden, dump his body in the ocean, and then withold all evidence of his death from the public.

Nobody will speculate about anything.

You can't even make up any of the official stories.. it's really some hollywood stuff.

Jesus ascended into heaven. No body.
OBL was dumped at sea. Body.

One is impossible to find. The other is merely difficult and expensive to find. Good luck to this guy but it sounds like he's about to piss away $150k on an attention whore stunt.

Good point.

If anybody knows, sounds like this guy would.

If he finds Osama he'll make a lot of money easily.

What if the navy doesn't want anyone to find it because thye dressed him up in a pig skin before dumping his butt over board.
