It's really not that bad for anything except editing sRGB work (even then, you can use profiles). I don't like it when people say wide gamut is bad for normal desktop use, because it most certainly isn't. Many web browsers offer the option of loading in a color profile to correct colors, and most other colors don't matter. I don't think that you will think they are that oversaturated.
There is simply more demand for wide gamut monitors and very soon, I believe that new sRGB monitors will cease to exist probably even in the photo editing sector. More software will incorporate better color management to deal with the "Wide Gamut Problem".

That also means white will appear more green than you're used to, since the increase in green exceeds the increase in red.
Yeah, I agree with the washed out look. It's weird because in games I don't notice it. I always set the gamma correction option in nhancer anyways to make sure it stays at 2.2. I have the settings pretty much where I like them atm. I have no regrets about the purchase.
Hello, I'm also a first time LCD buyer for personal use. Mainly for online first person shooters like counter strike and such. With the information I collected from this site and others, my choices ultimately have come down to these two monitors:

What caught my eye mainly about the vx2255wmb is it's ability to hit 85hz refresh rate while most LCD's can only hit a max of 75hz. I do know since all I've owned were CRTs is that 85hz and up had very smooth gameplay. I have also played on an LCD before and I remember there was a minor difference going from 60hz to 75hz. What I want to know is,
1. Should I just get the LG with 2ms response time over the 5ms Viewsonic since the LG is rated according to this buyers guide as number one for gaming.
2. Should I just get the viewsonic with the higher refresh rate or is it just really all about response time when it comes to gaming on LCDs?
I really would just like to limit that blurring affect when objects move fast or when your screen has to change when playing first person shooters. My previous experience was with the viewsonic vx922 and samsung 204b, lots of blurring with those monitors =/.

I tested the L227 again paying close attention to dark details and it's true, just scrolling an image element from the top of the screen to the bottom changed the contrast ? at the top the dark details were crushed just as you said, and at the bottom the same element was significantly flatter and lighter than at the middle of the screen.
Well, that's unsuitable for accurate editing to say the least. How can I set correct levels if I can't tell what the real level is! Too bad, this LCD really does have gorgeous color.
Looks like I'll take a chance on the NEC refurb. At least the reseller has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, and they pay postage.

xtknight, how would you evaluate the 2690 as a gaming/allround use monitor? I'm still hesitating whether I should get it or the S-PVA Eizo S2431. In store, I didn't have the possibility to check a lot, just dead pixels and input lag in Windows/overall image quality. Subjectively, the 2690 felt slightly less laggy than PVAs, although IMO it's not an issue on the Eizo, and tests say lag on both monitors is around 2 frames. Do you think that without a hardware calibrator I'll be able to make the LCD display natural, not too oversaturated colors in sRGB apps (internet, games) and do you consider it a capable gaming monitor (FPS, RTS)?

Guys, I'm looking for a glossy screen LCD that does not use a TN panel, any size. Anyone know of such a beast? I've had no luck finding one.

I received an HP LP2475w yesterday. I had been very happy with it until I read on another forum about the pink tint towards the right of the screen which, now that I'm aware of it, is often very obvious. This forum is a particularly good highlighter of it, funnily enough, due to the very pale grey background of the posts. It probably won't be noticeable on most of my photos, but I'm not sure I can keep this monitor when it will display even some of my photos with a visible pinkish cast towards one side

Eizo - virtually insane prices. Out.
Sadly, there's no way to buy Hazro, Doublesight and Planar in our country.

You can test for banding with gradient test images ( try http://lagom.nl/lcd-test )
Revision is in the service menu, the instructions for which you can google. The revision may also be on the packing material somewhere or the back of the monitor?
The LP2475W is the nearest equal because it's also IPS like your 2005. There do seem to be some minor problems with it, but I think it should be a great LCD regardless. Wait it out for reviews of the LP2475W. It's not all that more expensive than the 2408, and probably worth the extra due to the IPS panel.

It means they don't have enough stock, that's basically it. I wouldn't cancel if I were you: the PX2611W is a known good LCD and if they are indeed coming out with a new model we don't know if it will have more problems.
The Dell 2707WFP stands out as alright, but it will have some lag in games. The 26" IPS panels are a much better choice than the 27"s which are all S-PVAs (2707WFP, 275T+).
Wide gamut monitors work just fine for my uses. Most apps where wide gamut makes a difference provide the option to use a color profile, which does a decent job of gamut transformation. Most apps that don't look great in wide gamut. I am not sure about the crusade against wide gamut monitors but I continue to recommend them for all uses except when sRGB photo editing is the highest priority. Most colorimeters will work with wide gamut monitors fine, but I heard the Spyder 2 has some problems with WG monitors. The OP will be updated with this info.
Things like viewing angle and response time are noticed more than gamut on a daily use basis. How much the wider gamut appears depends highly on what colors you show. Sometimes there is not much difference, although solid bright colors tend to suffer the most. Like I said, many apps allow you to use color profiles.

I am not sure why it would look more blurry on an LCD, because LCDs are sharper than CRTs.
Response time, input lag, and viewing angle are almost certainly not the problem, but the sharpening chip in the LCD (if there is one), DVI/VGA, and contrast could be potential factors.
Do you have a link to this software or can you take a photo or describe the problem more accurately? Are you using the LCD at native resolution? It's most likely the software's resizing algorithm doesn't work well with LCDs. LCDs don't have the smoothing capabilities like CRTs due to the way the pixels are arranged, so it's possible that the faults of the resizing algorithm are showing through.

I was considering the Dell Ultrasharp 2709W but now I've been thinking that 27" might not be the best idea in general since it might be a little big for my desk and I'm not so sure about a .303 pixel pitch either. I sit kind of close to my monitors so a large pixel pitch like that one might be a problem... Plus as you say almost all of them have lag.
So what are some of the top 26" or 25.5" viewable LCD monitors out there? I'm in Canada by the way if that makes a difference... it seems a lot of the good models are not available here often.
Gaming is important to me so that means as low lag as possible (maybe around 1 frame max or less) is also important. Aside from that, I'm interested in a sharp image with accurate colors as well as good contrast, image quality etc. Viewing angles are a good factor too but I as long as they are not TN viewing angles it should be fine. Price between 500-1000.

Response time will make the most difference, so I recommend going with the LG. I can guarantee you it is a great gaming panel and a great overall deal.
The VX922 doesn't have that much ghosting though...so I'm not sure you'll notice much improvement, but that's as good as you can get for an LCD.
HDMI is generally pointless because DVI can be converted to HDMI. The HP is a good overall panel but the LG still edges it out.
The ViewSonic will be faster than the Dell and it probably has more accurate colors. Dell's cheaper panels like the SP series are usually pretty low quality.
The VX2255wmb is quite a decent panel. It's not the fastest ever, but it's certainly a good-speed panel and it has good color. The ASUS VW222u is the only other thing I'd suggest over the ViewSonic, if that is available. If not, don't sweat it.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you any more about it, other than that it is a TN panel.
How good is it? No clue... but did you check out the recommended monitors?
The best value 22" is the Acer AL2216wbd.

The 2690 has noticeable input lag during gaming, so it might annoy you if you're a hardcore FPS gamer.
If you're an average guy who plays at about 45 FPS with high settings, likes taking in the good graphics, and isn't too concerned with winning, then it will surely be fine for you.
I'd say the 2690 has three frames of lag because it's quite noticeable when it does happen. My tests did show that it lagged 2 frames twice more than it lagged 3, but it's still noticeable.
For most everybody I consider it a fine gaming monitor, but if you're serious about games then you'll have to steer clear of it.
You can use the profile provided on the CD or website to do gamut transformation. Without a calibrator you will not be able to fine-tune the gamma, which really is not necessary with the NEC.
The 20WMGX2 is noticeably faster than the 2690.
I find the shift of VAs quite annoying at times, so that would make my mind up to get an IPS. VAs have particularly sensitive shift with grays, but not much else.

The VW is the only model I know, but it's a great choice *(VA panel).
The NEC 20WMGX2 was such a panel, but it has been discontinued.
The ASUS PW201 is a glossy VA panel as far as I know.
The Apple 24" iMacs include glossy versions of H-IPS panels. Not sure about the 20"s.
Other than that, there are none that I know of.

This sounds like a defect. The LCD2490 doesn't have such a thing. But this is sad if it's really a serious problem. Call HP and see what they say about it?
