Dells often have aggressive anti-glare coating. But, it's not an issue of size.

Yeah, that's true.

And since I'm posting here, are there any thoughts on this monitor -- or the plain old T220? I've seen some conflicting reviews on it (aside from the looks, which everyone agrees are stunning.) It would almost exclusively be used with MCE, since most of my "computing" is done on my MacBook.

If you were to use a monitor with MCE you might want to get an HD tuner card and then have it display to the screen. A monitor with an HD tuner built-in will not let you record, unless it has a video-out that you later feed into another video-in device (which is less than ideal).

I don't have too many thoughts on the T220 as a matter of fact.

I think I've narrowed it down to the T220 or the Dell 2208 since I can't afford a *VA or IPS.

The ASUS VW222u and LG L227WT are good 22" choices unless the 2208 has something specific you're looking for.

I believe that's a result of the matte anti-glare coating. Glossy panels don't have this effect. The effect is present on many monitors, and unfortunately no amount of calibration will change that. If you sit far enough back you shouldn't notice it eventually

Yep, my Gateway 24" FPD2485W was notorious for that effect. It made all text blurry. However, it did made blacks and white terrific.

ok, this is the second forum attributing it as an artifact of anti glare finish. 🙁 maybe i just need to start doing some photo editing, but how in the world are people really using these for accuracy with this ??? it's almost like editing with a faint effect over the whole screen? do people just get used to it? for those that can't stand this, which display do you use?

The 2690 does not have the fuzzy coating. The AG coating is very clear.

People just get used to the fuzzy kind, I think.

I would not take the LCD back unless you are dissatisfied with it. Otherwise, you risk a possible restocking fee (depends on the store, situation, terms) and getting a worse monitor than you had, like with dead pixels.

wow, so happy to see this thread is still alive. i've had a great suggestion from xtknight last year. now my LG207WT is still work like charm. wat a great deal. Very happy with it.

but now i come back to get another one for my fren. He want to get a new 22' / 24' LCD. and the budget is abit tight, around 200-350 USD. and the LCD he need i believe it falls into the multimedia category.

i've seen this Samsung 2253BW with 8000:1 contrast and 2ms (as advertised) and ASUS Vk222 with HDMI support !! so izzit a good deal ? any recommendation ?

What does everyone think about the Samsung 2232GW. I have one, but was thinking of getting the LG L227WTG instead. Or maybe even getting a 24" model so I can use 1080 res on my PS3 once I buy it. I feel like that with the 2232GW that I just overpayed @ $330.00 for a glossy version of the older 2232BW.

Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.

mine has the exact same thing.

back light bleeding is very common. Chances are that every model in that series has it.

Two quick questions:

1. Is the BenQ G2400WD any different from the G2400W that's recommended on the front page of this thread?
2. Will I run into any issues using a DVI->HDMI cable to plug my desktop into this monitor's HDMI input? My graphics card is an 8800GTX.

I was looking at 22 inch monitors but am now thinking about going with a 24 incher to plug in my PC desktop for gaming/office work and a macbook pro for photo editing/management, light video editing and everyday use.

I do not watch movies on it (very rarely if anything) , or play many games.....

Looking in the 20" or greater monitor range.

I would say the LG L227WT. That's a good deal at the moment, and the ASUS VW222u (that exact model) is also great.

You should probably search for this but the 2232GW is subject to a panel lottery. I don't like these a whole lot.

I do highly recommend the L227 as you can see.

The HP LP2065 is a good monitor for your uses at 20", and the Dell 2408 fits the bill at 24". The only thing I'd be worried about with the 2408 is that the input lag would slow down your realtime waveform marquee in audio editing apps. If that's not a problem for you, go for it.

The DoubleSight DS-263N has the right combination of what I want in a monitor. I saw on their website that there is the DS-243N a 24 inch monitor. Is this the same monitor/panel type just smaller? Is so can I assume the specs (other than size) would be equivalent?

Thanks for the suggestion but my priorities are gaming, price, general productivity, and photo editing so I think I'm going to go with the BenQ. The G2400W is deactivated on newegg.com which is why I was asking aout the G2400WD.

You should probably search for this but the 2232GW is subject to a panel lottery. I don't like these a whole lot.

Edit: Hrm after some price hunting, I see that I can grab a 245BW 24" for $380. I'm thinking that is the one for me, since I want to run 1080p.

The 243N uses the LG PHILIPS LM240WU3 panel which is TN (as opposed to the LG PHILIPS LM260WU1 found in the 263N which is an IPS panel) and thus comes with all of the cons of TN vs other panel types. It is an entirely different monitor.

Pretty sure they are the same thing... Sometimes resellers remove the suffix of a product number, while others use the full product name. I mean, I could be wrong, but pretty certain.

Now, there is a L227WTG-PF, which is a gloss screen version of the L227. I own it (just purchased it yesterday, actually) and I find the display is incredable. Huge, huge difference in quality from my Samgsung 22" 216BW, and my 24" Dell E2408.

I don't think I will be able to go back to a matte finished LCD anymore... The gloss finish really makes it feel like a CRT again, without the head-ache of the refresh rate thingy, though.

My PX2611W arrived this morning, didn't get too much time to look at it before work. Doing a quick dead pixel test with black/blue/green/red test screens showed what I thought to be one dead pixel in the lower left corner but lightly rubbing it fixed it, so all is good. On a pure black screen, some backlight uniformity issues are apparent, I have a bit of leaking at the top center and top right. Luckily it's not noticeable under normal viewing circumstances, but you can see it during POST/bios messages.
It was extremely bright out of the box (brightness @ 100%, contrast @ 50%), I kept the contrast the same and lowered the brightness, I think somewhere between 10 and 30 is the right range for me. Colors look good so far, but I'm not an expert in this area. While there are differences from monitor to monitor I'll try downloading the icc profiles that toastyx posted on hardforums to see how it goes.
Overall I'm happy with the monitor, it feels about twice as big as my 2001fp it's replacing and image quality is excellent based on initial impressions.
I'll post some more info when I get home later, I'll probably test it out with games to see how response time and input lag feel.

OK that sounds good to me. I am not 100% sure about the G2400WD but will look into it and hopefully add it sometime soon. The W (and maybe WD) has good default colors, I do know that.

To my knowledge the L227 has only ever been sold as a glossy panel.

BF means black bezel, and I guess PF silver, but I don't know about PF. The G (WTG) means glossy.

After some testing with games and movies with the L2410NM 24", I gotta say that it is flawed in this regard. A perfect LCD for a desktop/office/internet browser, but once you get into the gaming, the blacks are terrible and undefined (no matter what the contrast setting), and there is an intense "screen door" effect. I expected this somewhat, being the monitor was so cheap. No harm done, I will be grabbing the 245BW tomorrow, since I can't find anywhere that sells BenQ locally.

This is a great thread, and has proven useful, but I could still use some help in determining what model might be best for me.

I will be playing games and would like the game to look at good as possible, but I am not a hardcore gamer and wouldn't play multiplayer a whole lot. I also plan on watching movies, although I might use my 42" LG LCD tv for that. I was going to get a 22", but I am now considering 24". My price range is 300-425, bit will consider spending a bit more if the panel is worth it.

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!
