Retail..

Will the 2500+ Retail fan be able to cool a 1.4TBird? I would like the 3 world warenty with the retail 2500, but I dont want to spend the extra money on a SK6+ and fan.

If it's retail then the hsf that comes with it is rated for that cpu and will do it's job fine.
Just don't expect to be able to get any good overclockability out of it. 😀

might wanna take a look at the warranty info, the warranty may only be good if you use the retail hsf

good point mee. Also, GAZZA, the resion a brought this up is because I have heard that the TBird 1.4 was one of AMD's hotest CPU cores and put out about the same amount of heat as a 2100 palamino. However, the 2500 is a Barton core, and if im not mistaken puts out less heat then the 2100 palamino or the 1.4 Tbird. If so, then the fan that comes with the 2500 may be adiquite for it (but I plan on using water cooling anyways) and the same time not as effective with the 1.4 which (why im asking) may run hotter then a 2500+

you where right, the warranty is void if I use it with any fan other then the one they provide 🙁. Maybe I should get a retail 1700 TBred? spend a couple of bucks, but it would still run fine.

omg, how the fvck are they gonna know what hsf you used? technically, using AS3 voids the warrenty as well, then all of anandtech has no warrenty

shady, I dont know about you, but I just read through the warranty and saw that the part about voiding it was this,
"This Limited Warranty shall be null and void if the AMD microprocessor which is the subject of this Limited Warranty is used with any heatsink/fan other than the one provided herewith. " I know that I have read it before when I stated that AS3 or any other thermal grease would void it, but this looks like a revision because that is simply not in there anymore "AMD Warranty"
