Quick answer again after a bump already (😉)

I doubt there is much difference between these. They are all CACJE's which have done great. The rest doesn't seem to make a huge difference, but you guys want to know, so we listed 🙂

Yep, just a brief google search turned up some great reviews. I'm in for one 🙂

Yeah, but wasn't that OEM? These are retail box.

BTW, just wondering what HSF this comes with... probably not the heatpipe units that the dual core Opterons come with...

Hmm...

1) You bought an OEM, not a retail package.
2) If you don't care about anything in the retail package, sell the AMD stock HSF for $15.
3) Monarch takes about fourteen weeks to ship out your package.
4) Tankguys lets you choose which stepping you want, so if you know what you are looking for, you can get it.
5) Better customer service.

I can keep going?

*Edit*
Zap, the single core Opterons do not come with the heatpipe HSF. That is only the dualies.

Can someone tell me where the Opteron's fit in this list:

Depends on what you mean...

How do the fit based on stock speeds, or overclocking capability?

Stock speeds. I've been out of the loop for a while and it's all very confusing now.

At stock, the 144 would be ~3000 Venice, and the 146 would be a 3200.

It's tough though, since the Opterons also have twice the cache, so they are kind of like the San Diego core... they also overclock better (in general) so it's not quite apples to apples.

FYI: I'm going to edit my first post here to answer any further questions, as I don't want to keep bumping this thread, because that's unfair for me to do that.

That's incorrect. They actually only sit on your order for about 4 business days doing nothing, before shipping out your package. See, that way if your order included something with a rebate, then the rebate will be invalid because their emailed invoice will be dated based on shipping, not on ordering. :disgust:

In the "true" hierarchy among 1MB cache chips:
Athlon 64 4200+ San Diego
Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego
Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2.2GHz
Opteron 146 2.0GHz
Opteron 144 1.8GHz

That was easy because all chips are same cache amount, so just ranked by MHz.

"Guestimating" where AMD would place them among 512K cache chips using the "PR" rating based on the sometimes accurate (oftentimes not) boost of around 200-300MHz that AMD seems to think doubling the cache gives an A64 chip:
Athlon 64 3800+ Venice
Athlon 64 3700+ Venice (was there such a chip?)
Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 2.2GHz = Opteron 146 2.0GHz
Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.0GHz = Opteron 144 1.8GHz
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1.8GHz

IMO at stock speeds the Venice 3200+ will outperform the Opteron 144 because more true MHz > more cache if you can only have one or the other but not both. However, in most cases the Opteron chips will clock higher on a capable motherboard and with decent cooling, plus the Opteron chips sometimes cost between the same clocked A64 and the higher clocked one, making them a relative bargain for overclockers.

"For stock speeds..." IMO go for highest true MHz at your price point.

Why would it be unfair? You are answering legit questions and offering a legit hot deal. Also, you weren't the one to originally post, so not like you're pimping your own site. Besides, some "other" vendors have had preferetial "stickifying" of their "official" deals for forum members. Hmmm, perhaps you can give us "Anandtech only" deals such as free budget shipping for forum members or something... hint hint... 😉

The larger cache found in the Opty amounts to about a 100MHz bump in core speed of the A64 chips (3000, 3200, 3500). I'd put my $ on the A64 3000 Venice because they are currently selling for $105. Most of these chips will hit 2.5GHz, plus/minus 100MHz.
