Retail C633 - Throw away intel fan/heat sink/thermal pad?

If I remove the heat sink/fan from a retail intel C633 is there a big mess of thermal compound left on the CPU?

I'd like to cleanly remove it, apply some thermal compound to the CPU and then add my Gorb on top...

Easy to do? Advice? Links?

the retail white stuff is not grease, its a thermal pad.

So no, theyre won't be any grease left on the chip. Better put some on.

which works better the pad or normal grease... obviously arctic silver is the best but pad vs normal grease?

Grease/Paste works better than the pad.

Does the pad come off easily or is it a razor blade job?

smokin' at 950 now after removing the thermo pad and tossing on some grease. MUCHO BETTERO!
