Retail Barton 2500+ $90.00 @ GoogleGear & $90.00 @ NewEgg

is there an unannouced price cut for AMD cpus? possibly AMD's pre-emptied strike against Intel's P4Cs?

at this price it's hard not to get one.

Man, I PM'd just a couple of days to a significantly higher price (AMEX). That's why one should wait it out when PMing...

Damn!

BTW, this processor has dropped in price by ~$80 over less than two months.

I am glad I waited. I'm still gonna wait until Monday though, to see if they drop more. Cuz really, I want a 2700+ or Barton 2800+. Though a 2500+ at that price is hard to resist...

Geeze. I just bought one last week from Newegg for $128. Oh well that sh!t happens. I'm still happy considering it overclocks to 3200+ speeds with the retail heatsink and fan.

Darn! I just bought the 2 gig Athlon XP to upgrade my wifes computer, $66 for retail shipped. That's just as well, would have to buy a new mobo for the Barton.

How well do these Bartons OC? I'm currently sitting on a 200MHz FSB...I'd hate to lose that advantage by going down to a 166FSB.

If you read my post above you will see that they overclock greatly. I set mine immediately to 200x11=2200 (3200+) and it works great in my Epox 8RDA+. I also can run it at 180x12.5=2260 ! Either way it rocks. And that is with stock cooling.

Also, make sure you have good quality ram if you want to run it at 200. I use Kingston HyperX and love it.

I've been wanting a Barton for a while now, almost jumped at the $135 point, but at this price and after reading the reviews on Newegg, I couldn't resist.

Omg, I paid $200 for mine when it came out. Since the manufacturing cost are higher than the tbreds, I didn't think the price would drop this much just as the P4 still cost $150 even when they are old. Anyway, it is a great CPU. Not the fastest but this is a hellava price for something that is this fast.

Should I go with the 2100+ or the 2500+? I know 2100+ are guaranteed 2.1Ghz easily (and most hit 2.3Ghz) but I remember that 2500+s are hit or misses...

but the pc i'm building for will do encoding so that extra cache + higher FSB (which will be oc'ed 😉 ) would prolly benefit more. But i also know in certain programs it doesn't benefit at all

Can't resist anymore. I got one for myself and also pick up a new mobo. I was so tempted to get the 2400+ when it hit $102. This is a great buy. I am glad I hold it off until now.

Thanks a lot!! *getting CC out of wallet*

Just ordered one. Heck, it's cheaper than OEM. 😕 I don't get that at all, but hell, it's always nice to have a spare HSF around, right?
