I've used memorex no problem, but I've been using the Office Max Maxell's now, since they're often available at a reasonable price and have good quality... I learned my lesson on cheap media.

Best Buy has the 50-pack Dynex (Ritek) media for 5.99 to 12.99 depending on the store. Some even have Memorex 50-pack for 8.99. These are +R. If made in Taiwan, Memorex are either Ritek or CMC. If made in India, they are suck. Staples brand are CMC, so they are not bad, depending on your burner. NEC will burn great on CMC.

Oh yeah, these are in-store.

GQ's always been a crapshoot, so ???
I have good luck with GQ media, but I agree with your assessment. 😛 My old NEC 16x burner was really picky with several different types of GQ media, but my current Benq DW1620 handles it almost as well as the older Lite-On (8x) burners did. The quality scans at 8x are excellent. I should go pick up another spindle.

Here's the media ID of the GQ DVD+R spindle I picked up:

CMC will burn fine. But you'll learn the hardway when it comes time to read the media in the future. If you "need" the data later on, but something better than this.

media defect is caused by scratches before you burn them. these are like smeared, they look like someone shiton them like dog poo 😱
some sell 2x that are like that, it's crap and won't even burn at 2x

I went to Circuit City last night and found a 50 pack 16X speed Memorex DVD+R for $18. Its in my car, I don't know where it was manufactured. (its in a purple plastic wrap, if that helps)

Was this a good deal? I ended up buying two, couldn't find other cheap media 16X rated.

Hmmm, now you've got me worried. I've been hoarding cheap media every time I see them on sale. What if you only burn them at their rated speed (or lower)? Would that help it when trying to read them back later?

I dunno, i dont trust any MIT (made in Taiwan) media. so maybe it'll work good, maybe it'll work bad. who knows! its just that w/ MIJ, there's a less chance (very low 😉) of dvd failures/quality issues

lets add the media codes to the top of that list. plz edit the posts.. Any TYs in there?

Most of those probably won't be TY. However, i'd say the BEST media on this week's list is the Maxell MIJ, last time i got MXL RG03 for -R, and Maxell 002 for +R. I got Philips041 for +RW, and even though it's MIT, it seems alright.

when it comes to burners, Memorex DVD-RW/DVD+rw's are very picky to when they decide to work. It might be my burner or it might be the discs but in mine and a friend's burner these have worked prolly once out of 5 times
