Computers4sure has *69* of the Athlon 2400+ (should be retail, as the code is AXDA2400BOX) in stock for 213.95 - $15 off 200 coupon (find it somewhere else - I like these forums too much and WON'T PM it to anyone) with ground shipping $6.50. The retail heatsink shouldn't be that sucky anymore - new AMD guidelines require a slug of copper on the new retail 'sinks.

eBates currently has a 3% savings through C4S, so you could recoup your shipping costs through them - "Big Fat Checks" are going out 11/15/02, so you won't have to wait long to get your money back. Chip is 199.29 after eBates.

Chip is here.

The coupon expires tonight, so if you need one, buy now. Sorry about the short notice, but I had backordered mine and they just came in stock today - how convenient on the day the coupon code expires, huh? :)

EDIT: There's a new code for 20 off 250 or more which I'll lead you to find yourselves - again, I WON'T PM the code to anyone - they're easy to find with some searching. So find a "free after rebate" item or close to it, and this deal will live for a while. Try hitting up Symantec's software if you're looking for "FAR" (Free After Rebate) stuff.

I ordered an OEM xp 2400 for $188 shipped from newegg yesterday... for the $17 difference you could buy a much better heatsink/fan unit than the retail one..

True, palidor - but some people might be content with the newer-design HSFs with the copper slug embedded in the bottom and also want the 3-year warranty attached to the retail chips.

Why not PM it at Staples and use a $50 off $200 code?

PS: bump for a fellow University of Crotchester student :)

Because you'd need the Ingram Micro special order number to get it through Staples, if someone were to reveal that, it'd be simple.

These are all great deals, just too bad it too this long for AMD to get this into mass production. Guess it will be next year for the 2600+ to be mass produced (even though a few retailers on pricewatch say 11/15) and 2800+ will come probably in March. Ridiculous IMO.

Hans, you know noth-ing (noth-ing), Pentium 2.53 is $240 on newegg and AMD XP 2400+ is $187.

As for eBay... you can also get lots of stuff from a guy in the alley.

Oops, looks like they only have a 2200+ right now. Anyways, hans007 is right. The p4 2.53 is $240 on PW, but you can PM it at Staples and get it for around $200 after coupon, if not less (IM1573536, hint hint :) ). I got a P4 2.4B for $130 about a week ago (well, $155 intially, $130 after I sold my $130 P4 2.0A for $155).

Pentium 4 after all that hassle is still more expensive but it is slightly better than 2400+. It also depends on the kind of the motherboard you'll be using. If it's one of the new NVIDIA nForce2 chipsets for AMD Athlons, keep in mind they support dual-channel DDR memory. Due to their enhanced memory controller, they outperform even VIA KT400 plus they support future 333FSB AMD Athlons so it's good all next year.
It comes down to what you'll be putting these CPU's in.

Amd is just much more cooler to have. I like the company more than I like Intel. From what I hear from people who work in the industry Intel is the hardest company to deal with because they are real stiff arms.

Not quite, I bought a 2.0A for $130 when the lowest price on pricewatch was $160, sold it for $155, and bought a 2.4B for $155. In other words, a 2.4B for $130 :)

PS: got both chips at Staples.

AMD needs your money more, intel has plenty of reserve cash but AMD has only enuff money to last 4 quarters.
