Just to confirm that the TBird I just received from newegg is the AYHJA model. For $12 difference, you can decide if you'd rather have the OEM or the Retail. I've heard that all 1.4s are the same, but didn't know if this was true.

Anywho, if you want to OC and have the warranty I'd think the chances of getting one of the AYHJA's would be pretty good.

OEM- $114
Retail- $126

Edit: Newegg has 2 different OEM 1.4 TBirds
One unspecified stepping chip for $107 and the $114 is the AYHJA

Sorry for the confusion, also the chip I received is the 'Y' stepping code (whatever that number means)

The price listed on pricewatch was 107 for OEM. I wonder if they'd adjust it...

I guess you are talking about CPU from newegg, OEM is $108 there, OEM with AYHJA is $114.

How about 1.33G retail one? It is $112, does it have AYHJA?

<< is the multiplier locked or unlocked for the 1.4GHz AYHJA Tbird at newegg? >>

This is like asking what I think, verses what I know...

Every review I've read (several on the 1.4 TBird AYHJA) says they are unlocked. Of course they talk as though you should be able to look at the chip and it be obvious. I don't know what to look for...

i believe every athlon 1.2 or faster is unlocked. like that matters anyways--i've been penciling in the bridges of 1 GHz athlons since you were sucking on your momma's tites.

You overclock and there goes the three year warranty out the window.

With the current price difference between a 1.2 retail and 1.4 retail at NewEgg being 10-20 bucks, why even waste your time overclocking?

How is the fan noise on the retail 1.4? I got a retail 1.2 a few weeks ago and the fan noise was acceptably quiet-not whisper quiet but certainly no whiner either. may be building another system shortly and am thinking 1.4 this time.

Brutus:

"Unlocked" have the 4 L1 bridges connected, so that the multipliers work, as my buy.com boxed AYHJA 1.4G blue core does. Cheaper and faster shipping to the right coast, than Newegg...yes I have Amex Blue, for PM. :))

I'm not planning to OC. But mine are connected as far as the L1 goes. I found some good pictures which show the bridges connected. At first I thought it may be locked because of the shape of the bridge (like a dog bone), but after finding my magnifying glass I can see the difference between the L3 & L4 bridges and the L1.

Nice Picture

Thanks for the info!:D
