In regards to my post above about the PSO at Outpost, I just got this unexpectedly a few minutes ago:

<< Dear RYAN :

Thank you for your order J42788xxxxxx.

Please note that the item(s) listed below have been removed from your order per your request to Customer Service or because the item is no longer available from the manufacturer.

ITEM # DESCRIPTION QTY PRICE REASON

>>

Since I didn't call customer service, I'm guessing the supply lines dried up. Ah well, it was a nice dream for the night. :) This was one of the games I wanted to try online with the Dreamcast but I'm just not yet ready to throw more than $20 at it.

<< jcpenney.com has got Sega controllers for 9.99. Search for a coupon for free shipping. >>

Great price! Coupon code also works!

Best I've seen was at Best Buy B&M for 14 a piece. Good stuff!

I managed to find a bunch of the 99 cent Nyko extension cables at CompUSA (my local store had never bothered to put new prices on the items so they were still marked $3.99, so no one bought them), so I bought 4 of them, figuring I could put together 2 and 2 and let my kids play really far away. However, I only really need 2 since one per controller is more than enough. I am not sure whether I should return 2, or keep them since who knows if I will ever be able to find them again if I ever do want them :). Suggestions?

.99 cents each and they aren't going to be available in the near future. What was your question again?

Seriously, what if the dog chews one of them or one of your kids decides to use one as a jump rope and ruins it? .99 cents for a couple of spares seems trivial.

You were joking, weren't you? ;)

Please tell me what is so special about the Performance VGA adapter? I've given it some thought and I'm not even sure for the used prices these things are going for. What is so much better about the Performance VGA compared to my $15 Naki VGA adapter?

The way that I see it is that you could just hook up your DC without taking the video cable from your monitor? The disadvantage to this is that you have something semi permanently in between your monitor and video card which may or may not degrade your picture quality when you aren't using the DC. The other is that it's just something else taking up space on your desk when you're not using it.

What is so difficult about unhooking your VGA cable from your video card when you want to use the DC on your CRT? I'm just trying to understand why I want to pay someone 3x the money for a used VGA adapter that I paid for a brand new one.

Thanks and please let me know?

No dog :).

Well, I had originally been planning to ask if anyone here wanted to buy them, but I guess it pays to hold onto them now that I think about it. Who knows, maybe I'll buy a 3rd controller from JCP.

It's all a matter of what you want out of your gaming setup. The Performance adapter lets you use your computer like you normally do but if the Dreamcast is on, the box will automatically switch over to the DC to display on the monitor. It's one less hassle of swapping cables when you want to play DC on VGA and using your computer. No switches, no cables to swap, and there's also a switch to display the DC on your TV instead of the VGA monitor. As for signal degradation... if it's there, my monitor's too crappy to show me so I don't care. :)

(tongue in cheek) And if all it does is pipe to VGA, I'd say you paid too much for that Naki adapter if it can be built for $5 in Radio Shack parts and a cannibalized DC AV connectors. :D

<< Well, I had originally been planning to ask if anyone here wanted to buy them, but I guess it pays to hold onto them now that I think about it. Who knows, maybe I'll buy a 3rd controller from JCP. >>

Yep.. I'd hold onto it if I were you. .99 cents is great, but I've found them for $3.99, which is still a great price. It would be about the same cost if I were to buy one from you and have you ship it to me. ;)

About the VGA adapter.. I probably did pay too much for my Naki box, but I figure that the extra $10 will save me the hassle of having to go pick up all the parts, solder something up and hope that it works.

The Performance adapter sounds nice, but at $45 used, I'm just not sure that it's worth it. What do you think? I don't plan on having my Dreamcast hooked up to it all of the time, so I'd have to hook up stuff anyway if I wanted to play my DC on my monitor.

Sal

PS.. Bill Rubin: How did that Dell 2100 work out for you? I'm still using mine. Runs pretty good for $285. :)

Keep your eyes open for open box Dreamcasts at Best Buy. They've been sold out of 'em for at least a month but when I walked in to grab a 2nd controller ($14.99), there was a (surprise!) a BB employee with 2 open box DC's in her cart going for $35.99. I asked her where she got that from and all she told me was that some lady 'just took the last one'.
Theres still hope for some of you DC-less people out there.

It works pretty well. I have to upgrade it to 256mb with the free memory I got from Staples on Black Friday (already went to 192mb with CompUSA memory).

Only problems I have:

1) the joystick apparently does not come back to life after the machine comes out of hibernation.

2) I need to get another video card in there. The first time I tried it, I had some problems and I finally installed a game for my son (Ski-Doo from CompUSA last week) that will not work with the on-board video.

Glad to hear. I put mostly leftover parts in this machine and it works great. I still wish it had one more full sized drive bay, so I could have a dvd player and a cd burner in it at the same time. Oh well..

Dreamcast related.. Nothing right now, but I thought that I'd give a free bump to an awesome thread! :)

Checked out the Pinole Best Buy today, looks like they restocked. Many copies of Jet Grind Radio, Mortal Kombat Gold, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, Championship Surfer, the Sega Sports games, and a few other games I can't remember. They even had Fatal Fury, but it was listed as 29.99. Quite a few blue memory cards as well.

I just received the two DC controlller (made in Japan) ordered from JCPenny. $10/each free shipping. They are same as the one in BB ($15/each there).
TOYs is cleaning out the Quantum controller $15/each (original $30). bought two also. Does anybody here use this kind of DC controller?

i have the quantum controller and it is much better for a game like Soul Calibur than the standard controller. Since it is a 3rd party controller it is lower quality such as the analog control stick ...but i recommend it

<< Just got back from Best Buy in Fullerton, CA. I saw 3 copies of Test Drive V-Rally sitting there as of 6 PM Thursday, 1/3/02. Get on it quick if you live in the area! >>

Thanks admiralares, I live down the street from there and I have to hit it tomorrow. Hopefully it will be there. But I did stop by the local Funcoland and they just happened to have Marvel vs Capcom 2 (used) for $17.99. I don't know too much about it but I heard (on the boards) that it was one to get. Also, I stopped at Fry's and they had Bleemcast Grand Turismo 2 ($5.99). Has anyone had any experiance using it? I know that you need ps1 GT2 to play it. They also had it for Metal Gear and Teken 3.

I just picked up Sega Marine Fishing at Target for $7.99. They had a ton of them at the Vernon Hills, IL store. Also, Amazon currently has Sonic Adventure for $9.99 with free shipping. Not as hot as the $6.99 CC price, but free shipping and no tax for many helps.

I also stopped by my local Beastly Buy. They had a ton of blue VMU's for $9.99 and controllers for $14.99 (not hot).

Does anyone have any experience with the Nyko Dream Master controllers? I thought that I had heard, much like the Interact Quantum controllers, that the extra buttons help with the fighting games. they have these controllers at Funcoland/Babbages for $9.99. I don't know if that is a good price or not?

CourtJester - GT2 on the DC is excellent. I haven't played any of the 'good' drivng games, but pick up the PS1 CDs for $20 and give it a whirl...

Found this one on another forum:

Buy ANY Dreamcast item at kbkids.com and get a free controller and VMU (both Sega brand)...

LINKY

I placed three orders for Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, and Virtua Tennis. Under $45 shipped for three games, three comtrollers, and three VMU's is pretty good :)

By the way, it says on that link that you have to buy a console, but they inlclude the freebies with an DC purchase since they're sold out of consoles.
