There is an svideo+audio adapter at Software Etc. for $2.99. I dunno if it's that price only at the local store, but that is the cheapest I've seen it anywhere. :) The one I originally got from EB was $7.99 and the audio cables were very flaky so I returned it.

Is Grand Theft Auto 2 still available? It sounds like a game that's "right up my alley" but I've haven't heard any mention of it on here.

Also, is Radio Shack worth the trip? I never thought of them as a "Games" store.

Thanks!

I thought that you would be more into Arse Ripper or Bum Reamer 2. ;) :)

Seriously, I haven't seen this game in any of my quests.. Hopefully, someone can provide you with a source.

I'm having trouble finding stores that are restocking their DC merchandise. Everything is picked-over whether it's at CC or BB or EB, etc. Anyone else seeing this trend out there? Does anyone know if these stores will restock, or are they going to discontinue DC and are using these sales as closeouts?

Also, is the S-Video adaptor really that much better than a normal connection to a TV?

GEAR: Looking at my local Software Etc. and EB, they all have a decent selection of 3rd party stuff for great prices, as well as Sega branded stuff at reasonable prices. I snagged a Pelican 4x uncompressed memory card (meaning it's actually 4 megs!) for only $10 at Software Etc. They also had a fair amount of games. I live in a college town, so I'm surprised I can find anything around here.

SVIDEO: The svideo cable makes a WORLD of difference (for me) on my 36" Sony VEGA. It depends on how large your TV is and how close you are, though. If you're playing on a 20" from 15 feet you probably wouldn't see a difference. :) With RCA, you get more color shifting, banding and bleeding that you don't get from svideo. I just with they made a component cable :D

Does anyone here use the Mp3X thing you can buy at the stores to play MP3's on their dreamcast? Can't you use MP3X to swap with a regular MP3 disc to play your music?

Has anyone tried DCMP3? Anyone make it work?

I just tried playing F355 Challenge with a VGA adapter for the first time. I have a real mixed feeling about it so far. First of all, the VGA adapter on a monitor is a world better than a tv as far as resolution. I couldn't believe the difference. I can finally make out all of the corners now in F355. ;)

The thing that I don't like though is that F355 seems a ton slower when I view it on the monitor. Is the game this slow and I just can't tell because of the loss of detail when playing it on a tv? It was just disturbingly slow to me on the monitor. 160 mph felt more like 60 mph. Is this something that doesn't translate from the game when you use the VGA adapter. I'd love to know.

Also.. I picked up a Ferrari wheel at EBgames B&M this evening. I'm going to go head to head with it against the MC2 wheel in the next couple of weeks. I can hardly wait to compare them. Just too damn busy getting the place ready for family for the holidays and getting all of my Christmas shopping done to play though. :(

Atrac - I've seen GT2 around. You should check ebgames or even a gamestop. I remember seeing copies of it around during my many quests for cheap games, however I can't remember at which stores. But I'd like to say that it was one of those. The price is in the $20 range, not too high. Enjoy!

Chuck - My local BB has been surprising me. The past couple of weeks they had only the same 3 games around. But when I went there this week, they had games that I had a)never seen before and b)hadn't seen there in months. They also restocked their accessories too, game controllers were everywhere. Jump packs too, but they don't interest me. I'd like to say that they are maintaining higher inventories then they had a couple months ago, the Dreamcast section is now finally larger than what the N64 had been forever. Hope this helps!

Went to Best Buy last night and they had gotten in an accessory pack from InterAct that had an aftermarket controller (several different colors), rumble pack and memory card for $19.99. Not great prices considering they aren't Sega brand, but would compare to about $35 if bought separately. YMMV as it seems Best Buys don't carry everything at every store, and I had not seen these accessory packs before yesterday at this particular store.

Good Luck.

For General Information purposes...

I went to the local Best Buy(Thousand Oaks) Saturday and they were sold out of most of thier DC titles. I went again last night(Tuesday) and they had restocked! Local TRU was selling DC games for $29.99. Local EB had 'used' DC games for $29.99, while thier 4 'new' titles were $9.99. And I found Shenmue for $9.40(Last copy) at Target(Woodland Hills).

I hope someone finds the information useful.

I picked up a VMU at ToysRUs last night for $9.99. Also got a blue
Dreamcast controller (Sega brand, not 3rd party) for $7.70 on
closeout. My question: Is there a better memory card option at a cheap
price. I want something that works (no waking up to a "card is
corrupted" message) and is cheap and holds a LOT more than the 200
"blocks" that the Sega VMU holds. Any suggestions for that?

spankyj: Thanks for the Gamestop tip. I just ordered a used GTA 2 for $14.99 plus $5.00 shipping. To me, that's worth it (seeing that the game sells for $30 - $40 on eBay). They say it won't include "box" or manual, but I don't care. I think the game will be pretty self explanatory (kill whores, etc...heh heh).

Kwad:

This thread is huge so it's easy to miss stuff :), but above I posted this:

<< I snagged a Pelican 4x uncompressed memory card (meaning it's actually 4 megs!) for only $10 at Software Etc. >>

It's an 800 block, so technically it's the equivalent of a 512k card, but since it's uncompressed it doesn't suffer from corruption. It has side switch that lets you switch between 4 banks of 200 blocks each, with LEDs to tell you which one you're on. Hope that helps!

[edit] I also saw a GameShark one at EB, which was a 8x (1600 block) card (!!) for $20. It can even plug into your computer so you can download save games, which was an odd option. Bot for $20, it wasn't a bad deal.

<< Everybody: Send me your feedback on whether you'd like to keep the current list format, or whether you'd prefer an alphabetized list with multiple prices.

Of course, if folks want the new format, and some helpful soul wanted to copy the list, alphabetize it, and then PM it to me...I wouldn't complain. ;)
>>

well, good thing you are consistent in your formatting of the list, so it's easy to sort them =)
(sed, sort, they are your friends :) )

anyways, for the current list sorted by title: games, controller, cables and misc

let me know if you prefer it in different format, and i'll edit it real quick

the only problem is the formatting is all gone, so you'll have to re-link them, etc. but that shouldn't be a problem for you, right? ;)

and yah, i guess we need folk's input whether they want to alphabetize or leave it like that before changing it. hey, maybe time to poll this at OT and gather even more contributors that lurk at OT only?

stndn:

sweet! thanks for the formatting work. haven't received any feedback really, one way or the other. maybe folks don't want any changes? or maybe don't care?
I'll post something on the list and see if I can get any feedback.
Either that or link to a poll over in OT, like you suggest.

Best Buy in my area has restocked AGAIN! Newest game available that I haven't seen before is King of Fighters: Evolution for $9.99. I'm always amazed when Best Buy restocks and brings out games I haven't seen before.

Who here uses a broadband adapter and is it worth purchasing? Do you have to pay any other fees to play online? Are there enough DC players online?

(durracell: this post doesn't really answer your questions, sorry)

The official use of the broadband adapter is for multiplayer games, of course.

Some unofficial uses:
* Network DC using Linux boot disk
* "Rip" Dreamcast discs (requires certain utility)

I have an idea that it is that latter unofficial use that is what most people are trying to buy them for.

And NO!!! Don't ask me where to get info or tools to carry out the latter unofficial use.
If you wanna pirate so bad, find out yourself.

So, what you are saying is that everyone plays online w/ the 56k modem? And doesn't Sega charge $10/mo to do so?

Kinda got a hot one here.

Just stopped by the local Funcoland (part of Gamestop.com) and they had a used DC Broadband Adapter for $19.99.
I grabbed it, came home and plugged it in only to find that I don't have a game that supports it. So now, straight to eBay for some profit.
