Ok, I finally did a drive-by of the Funcoland/Gamestops near my work in search of some more $19.99 Mad Catz MC2 Steering Wheels I found earlier in the week but were sold out at a subsequent visit. Found a couple at Gamestop, both stickered at $19.99 but with different SKUs. SKU #800862 is the default "Dreamcast Racing Wheel (Mad Catz)" while SKU #900225 is the generic "Dreamcast Steering Wheel - Used" they slap on some of the boxes whether or not they are new/used, and regardless of manufacturer.

I also obtained a list of all available new and used games at Gamestop, accurate as of 12/11. I did a little comparision to TallGeese's ever-evolving list and found these to be lower or matching that the list. Those marked with '*' might be a buck or two higher but can be bought at EB/Gamestop/funcoland B&M and thus saving money from shipping costs of e-tailers, or easier to obtain than prices quoted from Sears (which is a crapshoot in terms of availablity and pricing). Enjoy.

Seri:

Great work! These will be added to the list immediately.

And, I agree with you about how frustrating it can be to actually score some of these prices. Again, that's one reason why I've been soliciting receipt scans from people, but am not having much luck. It's also why I don't post any prices from places like Fry's or other stores without a national presence. Such deals simply exclude too many people.

Along the same line, I've been debating whether to remove the Sears deals or not, since the prices vary so widely from store to store (usually at the whim of the local manager) and seem to be causing frustration more than anything.

Everyone: Feel free to PM me and let me know if you want the Sears prices removed.

Wow, I haven't been back since this thread started. 452 posts is a lot to go through. Could someone give me a quick run down on good places to get games and acessories. I bought the sports bundle at BB.

<< Argh....just got VF 3tb from KBtoys but couldn't play. When I turned the power on, it booted to System setup screen then reboot and reboot and reboot.

What's going on? Is it possible that this isn't US version? Help please.
>>

The same thing happened to me... anyone have any ideas other than "take it back"?

Just read this at Planet Dreamcast: For Shenmue and other RPG fans out there, the sequel is now available for pre-order from EBGames for a Dec. 19 release date. Available as a UK import, Shenmue II will include a boot disk to allow the game to be played on US systems. That's the good news -- the bad news is that they're charging $60 for the privilege. :Q Yeah, you read that right -- a price higher than even most PS2 and Xbox games are going for. :( However, I guess the fact that it's even available is worth it for some.

Anybody got the receipt for Marvel vs. Capcom from CC for $10? I bought one and it rang up for $18.49 on the 10% CC sale. I'd love to get it for $8.99.

Thanks,

Sal

I just got back from Electronic Boutique where I picked up 3 mega memory cards (800 blocks each) for $9.99 each. NFL 2K1 takes up almost the whole 200 k on a standard memory card so this is worth it.

Well, I finally received my bleem! GT2 disk and played a few races of GT2 on my DC. Sweet! Now I just need a good way to anchor my wheel. Do most of you play on a tv or on a monitor on a desk? I play on my tv, and I don't really have any good table to anchor the racing wheel to. I'm thinking of building a racing wheel table, but my wife would not like that too much. What have you guys done? BTW, my wheel has no way to anchor it to my leg.

One other question...

I have an extra 17" monitor sitting around I would like to hook the DC up to but I don't have a VGA box. Is there a noticable difference between VGA boxes? What are the good ones to get?

Also, someone with a nice high res tv, 500-700 lines. How much better does the DC picture look than on a "lower quality" tv? I have a 25" Sharp tv which looks ok. I bet it has < 400 lines of resolution tho. Would it look a lot better at that higher res? I just need to convince my wife that we need a new tv now.. :)

I say you should go for the VGA box. Its gives superb quality compared to TV. 0 color distortion. No color fuzz/static (stare real close at the color orange and you see nothing but pure orange)

If you still want to get the TV, remember that 1) You'll have some BIG jagged lines in your games or 2) The game'll look blurry from being stretched to such ungodly dimensions.

I'm thinking of building a racing wheel table, but my wife would not like that too much

In the words of Norm Peterson. "women, you can't live with em, Pass me those beer nuts."

So someone please tell me what is the stearing wheel to get. I just went to gamestop and they had about four boxes that said mad catz for dreamcast but none said MC2. I understand the MC2 is better than just the madcatz, right? What about the Concept4 from interact? Any others i should know about?

I was thinking of doing the same thing! We'll have to compare designs :)

Anyway, I think Al Bundy was better: "Women...can't live with em, can't shoot em."

Late Bump^

I tried Test Drive Le Mans for about 10 minutes, I thought there'd be more cars. I'll give more accurate comments when I've played for a longer time.

I wonder if it's worth it to get a joystick just for virtua fighter 3tb.. :)

Some summarizing for all the racer here... :)

Madcatz MC2 is the ONLY way to go. Awesome wheel!

MUST HAVE Races:
Test Drive Le Mans
Test Drive V Rally
Sega GT
Metropolis Street Racer
F355 (Very difficult though, but the tracks, Monza for instance, are rendered better than in ANY PC sim I've seen. Not even Superbike 2001 comes close).
Bleem + Gran Turismo 2

Hope that helps. :)

As far as racing games go, Test Drive V-Rally and Vanishing Point are outstanding. Vanishing Point even has a separate skills portion of the game which is amusing (and equally frustrating when you can't score high enough to unlock the next skills challenge). Think Crazy Taxi 1&2 Pyramid-type Skills competition and you get the picture.

Barely played my TD:Le Mans and Crazy Taxi 1&2 so far, been having so much fun with the two games mentioned above... and I haven't even opened my Sega GT yet.

MC2 is driving me nuts. After getting used to driving with the standard controller, I'm constantly over-steering when I use the MC2 wheel. It's gonna take a while to get used to the wheel. But the MC2 is made really well, the grippy wheel is an especially nice touch.

seri:

Many racing games on console platforms intentionally set their sensitivity VERY high ( to compensate for the imprecision of the standard controller) and don't offer a way to adjust these settings.

MadCatz thought of this and came up with a great solution: The MC2 allows you to adjust the sensitivity on the wheel itself, if you find yourself oversteering.

This is the GOLDEN TICKET feature of this particular wheel, and the reason that you'll only get my MC2 when you pry it from my cold, dead hands :frown:

Oh, for those of you that have depleted BB stores in your area, try using their online site and elect "In-Store Pickup". Usually, their online inventory of their B&M stores is not accurate. Order with "In-Store Pickup" for a BB location near you and they'll send you an email saying they don't have it in stock and direct you to call their Customer Service. So what happens then is that the CSR will cancel the existing order, you re-order from their website, give the CSR your new order number and they will waive the shipping charge and online processing fee when your order arrives at your home. Not the best and most timely method, but worth it if you can't get any of the nice cheap games from BB.

Thanks for this thread TallGeese!

<< hmmm...now wondering if this will work to redeem my raincheck for Sega GT... >>

Raincheck? How'd you get a raincheck for Sega GT? I bought it on that weekend, but they ran out of GT..

I forgot to get a copy of Sega GT that day (slipped my mind...heh).
Called them on the phone the next day, explained the situation, and they said they would get and hold a copy for me.

Of course, when I got there the day after that--the closest BB is 50 mi one way :frown:--they said they didn't have any, but issued me a raincheck. Of course, it's only good if they get more in stock (which they haven't yet) but I'll bet I can make it work with the web site.

Wish me luck folks!

Target in Ft. Wayne IN has loads of Shenmue for $13.90 and Jet Grind Radio for $4.99...but has Toy Commander for $29.99. Couldn't figure that one out.

Great thread TallGeese !
