I know that resume should be plain and simple but in today's competition, you would want yours to stand out among the rest. I am learning Adobe Indesign 2.0 and it has some really wicked typography effects. So is it recommened to add some to your resume to make it look for unique? What is mean is not overdoing the effects but just a subtle things here and there.

I'd recommend using thick paper with noticeable grains. Basically, use expensive paper. Also, having it be a slightly off-white color might help because it won't look like it was done on purpose like pink paper.

If you do anything put a tiny border at the top (only the top line) because it will still look professional, but the line will attract someone randomly flipping through a stack of resumes.

Don't fvck up your fonts by adding colors. I also wouldn't recommend any text effects or shadows. You want to be professional.. you don't want to show that you know how to make a greeting card with Printshop.
