To those who may not know, I am currently in the process of switching majors at U of Illinois in Champaign. I am attempting on getting into their Business program, which happens to be one of the best in the state. It is a highly-competitive application process, and I have fallen a bit short in terms of GPA when compared to my peers. However, I have managed to get over 3 years of solid work experience at a very-profitable Trading firm in Chicago. I have been doing IT work which is directly related to the major I wish to get into (MIS) for them, and have advanced quickly.

-Began doing clerical financial work (excel, preparing documents, etc.)
-Worked with sensitive company information to create presentations for partners
-Began working in IT my 3rd summer back
-Was in charge of their Mobile Operations department at the age of 18 for a summer
-Was sent to New York to replace the head IT Tech. that was sick for 2 weeks. (Business trip)
-Have been offered a full time job the second i get out of college numerous times
-Have done personal networking work for a senior partner of the firm
-Did after-hours work on numerous network operations projects

I have also began taking on projects of my own at my part-time job here at school. (also IT related...help desk at the main research institute on campus)

I guess I'm a bit lost as to where I would put everything on the resume. I'm not sure if I would count every summer I've spent at the company in Chicago as one big work experience, or should I list each summer individually, stating the work/responsibilities I took on during that period?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated, as this is my last chance to stay at UIUC. Due to their poor major programs, if I do not get into their college of business, I will have no choice but to transfer schools, as I will have nothing to study here if I do not get in.

Thanks in advance! =D

Put the entire work experience with one company together. List your responsibilities. If you are worried about them asking you how long you have done them, then put which time frames you worked on what (IE: as the IT Tech).

List any other experience you have below that. Put your education next, and concentrate on any awards won, participation in business related groups, or special projects. Try to make it look good without concentrating on the GPA. If you are member of any professional service organizations, or have any business related certifications, put those next. Try to get a couple of people to give you recommendation letters and say why you would be a good candidate for business school.

Great idea putting the work experience before all else...had it the other way around before:p

Also, forgot to mention that I am getting 2 letters of reccomendation from people I have worked with. 1 from my boss in the IT Dept who has promoted me numerous times, giving me more and more responsibility. The other from the senior partner I did work for...who just so happens to be an allum from the school.
