Everything is at default settings for
PERFORMANCE/DESKTOP on the controller so cluster size or stripe size i'm not sure what it is.
Business: 6320
High-End: 19300
AVS/Express 3.4 17600
FrontPage 98 55000
MicroStation SE 25400
Photoshop 4.0 9720
Premiere 4.2 21200
Sound Forge 4.0 21200
Visual C++ 5.0 19900

My Hardware
2 40GB Maxtor ATA/100 7200 9.0MS (54098H8) on Raid 0 ( one bootable partition)
Promise FastTrak100 ATA/100 (PIO Only set on Windows 2000)
Video: Nvidia Riva TNT (Creative Graphics Blaster)
CPU: Celeron 300A overclocked to 450mhz at 2.2v
Motherboard: Abit BX6
AGP Bus: 66mhz (2/3 bus speed)
RAM: PC100 no ECC

My Settings when tests were run:
1600 x 1200 32bit color
OS: Windows 2000 Professional
Partition: FAT32
WinBench 99 version: 1.0

Processes running while tests were run:
EM_EXEC.EXE
mspmspsy.exe
MSTask.exe
regsvc.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe
svchost.exe
VPlus.exe
Winampa.exe

I will try different cluster and stripe sizes when I feel like tweaking it. I still have unresolved issues like clunking noises, running fdisk, etc. I am pretty satisfied with this first trial of tests.

This was information for anyone curious what the performance was and was thinking about getting one. I would greatly appreciate some comments, suggestions, and numbers to compare with. Thanks.

Those scores are really low. Check your configuration. The Business score is lower than a single DM40+ should be getting. The validity of Winbenches scores are starting to get a bit hazy, as it is quite an old benchmark and firmware optimizations are skewing results. The only useful numbers to get out of winbench are the lowlevel access time and beg/end STR which you didn't list and would be a telltale sign if something is wrong with your setup.

There are issues with DiamondMax Plus drives and RAID, and these may not be the best drives to use, although they are very, very fast individually. There was a long thread about this over at
http://www.storagereview.com.

edit: durn tags won't work!

I am thinking about taking the plunge, but wonder if there is a way to add raid capacity without having to reinstall everything from scratch..is it possible or do I have to do a clean install of windows?
