If a member of my O/S is a restricted user, how can that member get around installing programs on the system? To my knowledge, a restricted user can not do that, but for some reason i think there is away around it.
My biggest beef with 2000 is that the user group is not felxible enough. This problem has been solved in XP via group policy.
When you say "restricted user" I assume you mean "user". The only solution to your problem is to use the "power users" group instead of the "user" group.
Power users can install applications.
If the applications all happen to be .msi windows installer packages, then you can use group policy to allow a user to install an app. The policy setting is "always install with elevated priviliges". In my experience this only works with msi packages though.
