Restoring/repainting my car-what do you think? (pics!)

Pictures of the condition of my car

So im thinking of taking it to maaco for a cheapo paint job, but wanted to get opinions on it my car is one that I could probably get good results out of. (assuming a good Maaco). Pictures dont show nearly all the light scratches/swirl marks because right after I washed it the clouds moved in and it started to rain.

Also, how do deal with the rust spots. I was thinking bondo (?), someone else said fiberglass. Any good tutorials/books on this?

And any techniques for prepping it? A good sander to get? Thanks.

I'm thinking that this car is not worth the effort. Right now, it looks like an old Civic. To many people, there's nothing wrong with that, they're known to run well for a very long time.

If you get a cheap paint job, in one year it will look like an old Civic with a cheap paint job. To many, that's a complete waste. I'd save my money.

How to deal with rust:

If it's surface rust, just sand it off, and prime over it.

If a panels rusted all the way through: remove all the rusty material, you want to see shiny metal eveywhere. Now you've got a few options. 1) Completely replace the panel. (i.e. - your fenders rusted out, get a new fender.) This is the best optino as far as having it come out nice. It's also the most expensive.
2) Weld a new peice of sheetmetal in to fill the hole, sand smooth, fill with bondo if neccesary. This is a very durable way to patch a hole, but not real easy.
3) Fill the hole with fiberglass. If you don't know how to work with fiberglass, I guarantee you'll mess it up your first time.

Anyway, I wouldn't spend a lot of money painting that car. It's just not worth it. I thought you were going to have some old classic car from the 60's or something, not a mid 90's honda. Just get some touchup paint and fill the big scratches, and get rid of the rust. When it wears out, get a new one, it's not worth restoring.

<< Man Lucky Im sorry to see all that rust! That must suck...

We dont have to worry too much about rust here in AZ 😉

no, but your interiors go to hell pretty quickly

Lucky, as long as you don't want a "show quality" paint job, Maaco will do an okay job. The rust pics you posted aren't that bad that your average maaco couldn't fix. My godfather had his Lincoln Town Car painted by Maaco and it's wasn't that bad of a job, not "showroom" new, but better off than the small rust spots and swirl marks the car had. Hope my opinion helps, good luck 🙂

edit:Can't spell 🙁
