HI. im at the end of my sanity.

This is the 2nd time my XP Installation Boot sector has been destroyed... by fate, i dunno, more like an UN- overclocked WITHIN SPEC K8n Neo2 Platiunum MOBO.

Anyway, I got this error in boot "invalid system disk"

I tried to repair it with DP, and now, I get this error "Invalid Partition Table"

Ive gone to the XP CD Recovery console, and used the commands "Fix MBR" and "Fix boot" or something, but nothing has worked.

Now, I know XP keeps a backup of the boot partition somewhere on the drive, but the Microsoft explanation on how to restore it is over the top, and deals with applications i dont even have on my boot disk...

Can anyone give me some advice on how to restore this backup using the recovery console?

Cheers

Check the jumpers on your HDs... sometime that causes it.... Make sure your CMOS reads taht it has drives connected.

Another one would be going into the recover CD again and do a /chkdsk /r (check disk repair) and try doing the /fixmbr and /fixboot again as well as /bootcfg /redirect /default or /bootcfg /redirect /useBiosSettings

One of those ought to bring you back, other wise... i figure it would be your HD being bad...

Thanks for your help.

I entered in all the commands you stated, but i still had an "Invalid Boot Partition". I messed around in despair for a while, until I found out that i may want to make the partition active.

So I went and found Fdisk, amde it active, and viola.

Pulled me right outta depression.

Thanks oince again mate.... now to backup the mbr incase this happens again.
