Restitution for car accident

about 2 months ago i got hit and run by a stolen car and the damage done was not worth getting fixed since my car is pretty old (95 accord). now i just got a letter saying that the person that stole the car and hit me has to pay restitution but in order to get that i have to show receipts.

will i get reimbursed for 100% of all costs? i got quoted 1200 to get a new bumper, hood, and right fender with paint. i don't want to get it fixed and end up paying like 800 out of my own pocket cause i'm fine with how the car is right now.

and also, how long would it take to get the money for it?

Just send them the estimates. You're not required to actually fix the car.

Yes you generally will get what it costs. Get estimates from three shops so it doesn't look like you are cherry picking. For payment timeframe, look at who hit you. Was it a drunk college student who can get a check from mom and dad, or was it a drunk bum who doesn't have crap? The court will usually give some type of time frame.

Who contacted you? Your insurance company should have appraised the cost to repair the damage when you initially got hit.

Either way, the guy who hit him stole the car first.

well it was a 14 year old kid and the city where i got hit, people generally dont have great incomes.

i was contacted by my county's probation department

i didn't report to insurance because i was told by the body shop that my car would be marked as totaled if i wanted them to pay for it.
