Restaurant tax??

I believe this is statewide (in Indiana). Our normal sales tax is 5%, but at restaurants they charge 6%. Does anyone know what my extra pennies go for?

I think the sales tax is actually higher in Indianapolis, and there is talks now about raising the sales tax a standard 6%.

Might be related to a sports facility. In my area, King County, Washington State, sales tax is higher at restaurants to pay for the Taj Mahal the loser, suckwad Mariners demanded.

Here in Los Angeles we're just used to paying the obscene 8.25% sales tax on everything.

normal tax here in VA is 4.5% and restaurants tax is like 8.5%

It's 8.8% and 9.1% (restaurants) here.

I was in chicago last week and payed 8.75%. I thought that was obscene!

Here is Charlotte, NC - Prepared Food and Beverage Tax (Restaurants) is 1%, maybe 1.5% now. Room Occupancy (Hotels) is 3% just for our county. Back when I was developing the system they use for processing the collections, they were raking in over $27 million a year. It was originally created to pay for the coliseum that the Hornets no longer like. It was set to expire a couple of years ago, but it now is used as a source of revenue for anything under the sun by the county commissioners.

hmm weird AU Tiger, I'm over here in Raleigh, and I thought restaurant tax was 7%...could be wrong though. I know regular sales tax is 6.5%, and like goods like snacks and other stuff is 2%.

This in addition to the state tax. I think tax in a restaurant in Charlotte is either 7% or 7.5% currently. NC still has low taxes compared to other areas of the country, not that I am asking Easley to raise taxes anytime soon. I fear he may since he has that one billion dollar deficit.
