Good for them...damn thieves. As for a SSN number on a check....if they are stupid enough to have their SSN number on the check....

Everyone who ever wrote a bad check is definitely a thief.

hahaha. you should check out his other posts...

i did some research. those people could probably sue the restaurant owner because their right of privacy was violated (i.e. there was an implied contract that their sensitive information would not be displayed - SSN, routing numbers, account numbers, etc.).
Which they abrogated when they BOUNCED THE CHECK !!!!
Thanks for playing from home though....

BWAHA HA!

There was also an "implied contract" that the deadbeat diner would actually pay for his or her meal. The moment they failed to pay, any "implied contract" between restauranteur and restaurantee becomes null and void...

I say good for the restaurant...

not a copy but the actual returned check. they have about 9 up on the wall, nothing is blacked out on them, the persons name, address, phone, DL#, social, bank account, signature is blazing away for the general public to read while they pay their bill. isnt this illegal?

Is there cockfighting involved?

You see in Little Citrix the unlimited future you once had. Now, just because Citrix is a has-been, don't make Little Citrix a never-was!

It doesnt seem to be illegal inFl, as many places do the very same. primarily to remind cashiers to not take checks from those folks, and also to discourage others from...having THEIR bad checks displayed.

i would just notify them right away that what they're doing is wrong.
I agree!, notify the fskers that passed the bad checks that they did something wrong! oh, if you find them, tell them to pay their damn bill, CASH PLEASE!

I'm having a tough time figuring out what might be illegal about posting bad checks.

I once went to a gun show where a dealer had set another dealer's bad check in his display case. It wasn't an hour later when the bad check writer went over to settle up in cash and get his check back. Reputation was everything in that business.

They post bad checks in plain view at several places around where I live along with "DO NOT ACCEPT CHECKS FROM: ". I think it's great that they do that, given that the person never did try to settle up with them and make things right. If you've got no freakin' money in your checking account don't write any checks! It's not that hard of a concept to grasp.

it probably is illegal in some way, but those people shouldn't of written a bad check in the first place, not like the information is of any value if their checking account can't even cover a meal. what is someone going to do? steal their identity and buy a pack of gum? Hopefully the business owner does offer some type of solution for these people to get their check off the wall.

There is a small gas station/diner that I goto sometimes

They put it up on there big sign outside
Has there name address and phone # on it

Plus the post them all inside aswell

I have never seen a personal check with a person's DL, SSN, etc. Are you sure you are not just imagining this or LYING?

when was the last time you wrote a check? Typically they write your DL # on the front of the check after reading your ID

but, SSN?

in many cases DL# = SSN in my state.

What the heck? Are you serious? What state?

That's pretty ridiculous.....

North Dakota is one. or used to be. i was stationed that in that wasteland for 5 years left in 1997 and my ssn was my dl number.

I spoke to our acting Police Chief and he is going to have an officer visit the restaurant and urge that they not display them for that reason.

Nice job

Like so many of our whiny, liberal, members, who feel the criminals and scofflaws of the world don't have enough protections from "the man". Keep up the good work comrade!

I guess in your haste to resort to name-calling you missed the sentence preceding that one.

Good! People who burn establishments should be publicly humiliated. It's no more wrong, IMO, than posting lists of sex offenders.

Agreed.

And if you write bad checks, well you reap what you sow IMHO. A check is not legal tender.

Happens all the time around here, they put up the bad checks as a way of saying "don't be this guy"

Sex offenders serve their time in prison. If society deems that they've not served their debt, society will petition government to make the pentalty for such crimes more harsh. I don't believe that a sex offender SHOULD be let out of prison (firing squad), but if they are, leave them the hell alone. It's wrong. They've served their time in prison, don't harrass them.

Anyway, posting bad checks on the wall is fine with me as long as pertinent information is blacked out (routing number, bank account number).

UPDATE #3
When urged by the officer, that they not display them, restaurant owner suggested he take a flying leap!

I've always though it interesting the level of trust we are forced to demonstrate in each other based on our banking standards. Checks are a matter of trust and always have been, this would seem to stand in opposition to modernistic cynicism regarding the trustworthiness of strangers.

If you ask a stranger to take an IOU it's unlikely they'd be willing to. What's a check?

i think it is a good idea. as long as the routing and account number is blackened out.

embarrass the asshats that bounce those checks.

Well, routing number is usually public information. I can find out my bank's routing number online.
