Restaurant.com $25 gift certificate for $2 (80% off) ANYTIME

Restaurant.com has an 80% off coupon in effect (coupon code MEAL). If you purchase certificates now, they are valid for one-year only. Plus, some certificates that you may be interested in may be OOS and may not come back in stock until after the 80% off sale is over.

So, here is my solution for enabling the 80% discount ANYTIME:

1) Get the desired number of Restaurant.com certificates (not the restaurant-specific kind but the website's own certificates) here (Under "Give Restaurant.com Gift Certificates").

2) Apply the coupon code (ENJOY - thanks robsdeals) to get the certificates at 80% off NOW.

3) The certificates never expire and can be exchanged for restaurant-specific certificates at ANY TIME.

They say that
"The Restaurant.com gift certificate is redeemable for restaurant specific certificates up to the face value. For example, a $25 Restaurant.com Gift is redeemable for a restaurant specific certificate that has a $25 value or multiple certificates of lesser value up to $25."
Elsewhere,
"a $50 Restaurant.com Gift is redeemable for a restaurant specific certificate that has a $50 value or multiple certificates of lesser value up to $50."

One thing I don't understand is how you can use a $25 certificate to purchase $10 certificates, or if you can use a $50 certificate to buy one $25 certificate NOW and another one LATER. However, you should have absolutely no problems exchanging a $25 Restaurant.com certificate for a restaurant-specific certificate at any time.

Hmm... In for 5.

They added some restaurants around me. One I've really wanted to go to for a while but their food is a bit expensive; the other I tried once and wasn't a fan, but I hear they have good prime rib, so I'll give it a shot again. 🙂

Thanks!

Reasonable selection in my area. Anyone have any real world experience with these certificates? Any problems getting them honored at the restaurants?

i used them a lot in college. Never had a problem. It was awesome just getting the cheapest dinner you could find and spending the remainder of the $75 on boos.

I never had problems with these. Just remember that you can only use one certificate per month at the same restaurant.

Also, the longer you keep the cerificates (they are valid for one year), the higher the chance the place will go out of business. Occasionally, you may get reimbursed by Restaurants.com, but often not.

That's another reason to get a Restaurant.com certificate instead of a restaurant-specific one. This way, you can convert it to a restaurant-specific one just before you go.

I've used these many times. Just mention it to the server up front and they've always been happy to take it and include with the bill. Recommended!

I actually had a hard time at a local restaurant. They did not speak very good English and I think they did not understand what the sales person had sold them on. I was a regular customer but they made it clear they would only accept the one coupon.
