hi guys

i have this system:
Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz, Gigabyte x48-DQ6 mobo, 4 GB Corsair Twin2x4098-6400C4DHX , Gigabyte ATI HD4870, Corsair HX-620w power supply, Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 and WD 640GB Caviar Green and an old Maxtor 40GB IDE hard drive.

and here is my problem: since 2 days ago each time i turn on my computer, when it starts to load windows xp, right after finishing the loading screen it restarts
and i tried to install a new clear copy on each one of my hard drives and connected them separately, and tried them one by one but.... i cant even install windows xp or vista...right in the middle of installation process it restarts again

i tried to run partition magic or kaspersky anti-virus or acronis partition manager from a bootable cd, just right after the program loads it happens again



please help me! what should i do??? where is the problem??? i need to work my pc

First I'd check all of your BIOS settings. Make sure your CPU speed and voltage and memory speed and voltage are at the manufacturer recommended settings.

Then I'd run Memtest overnight and see what it comes up with.

everything setting is default...
and i run a memory test with Memtest 86+ ver 2.06 and after 40min of testing it said everything is normal and working well...

any other thoughts??

Run manufacturers diags on your hard disk. Also, 40 minutes may not be enough to fail your RAM. Do you have any spare parts to test with?
 
What are your temperatures like in BIOS? Is your RAM getting the specified voltage? I'd run Memtest at least for a couple complete passes if not more. Don't know about that particular power supply; how many amps does it provide on the 12v rail going to the CPU?
 
Try this: pull all but one stick of your memory and try booting again (if you have a working install of windows at this point) or try installing again (if you don't).

yes dbcooper1, i checked the voltage, sys temp is ~30 degrees and cpu temp is ~36 degrees.
i dont know about how many amps Corsair HX-620 provides for the CPU, i dont know where to look, but it is one of the PSUs available.

my system was working fine for about 2 months..... 1 or 2 days ago suddenly this strange problem occured... maybe something has happened to my PSU. is there any software to check that???

I'd try another power supply because it's easiest to swap out. It might be that the 12v rail is weak. The way they rate those things is so misleading; you can have tons of capacity but if it's divided by three rails, it can still be marginal. You don't get any beeps or anything? If you have a less powerful video card, that might be worthwhile too in diagnosing a power problem.

The 620HX is conservatively rated. It's still possible that he got a bum unit, but Corsair isn't pulling any shenanigans the way some PSU companies do.
