new computer, all the drivers are up to date.
playing an original music CD in good condition gives a srcatchy sound.
cables are all pluged in, volume in the control pannel is at a good level.
on top of that i could play a CD fine a few hours ago.

edit - restarting the machine fixed this - whatever
