Bought the game a long time ago, before I had a PC that could run it. Game was cheap on Steam so I bought it "in case" I could eventually play it.

I tried many times but I started around the same point in the game: at the start of the mission where you have to cross the Nazi front, maybe 1/3 in the game.

Now I restarted the game last thurday with a new relaxed mindset and i'm really enjoying the game. Atmospheric game, some nice frightening moments, fun gameplay and good graphics.

I'm now at the point
where you have to launch some missiles? A bit after the libray and the D6 stuff
. Damn it's getting tense and those effing mutant gorillas are a pain!

I even installed Last Light cause the game look as awesome as 2033!

Not sure why, but I just could not get into this one. I think I found it just a little too dark (lighting wise) and may not have been in the mood for that. I may need to give it another shot at some point since everyone seems to love it.

Yeah the darkness in this game is pretty intense. Although it fits the setting there's just so few moments where you can actually see and enjoy the details of the game.

But I can understand someone who can't get into the game. I'm at my fourth try now and if that can help, the game is not that long. I played maybe 7-8 hours for now and i'm almost finished.

There's those games that you just need to be in the right mood and finding the right mood is the hardest part.

What is up with this franchise that we need 2, 3 and 4 tries to finish the game once?

Maybe we're aging and nearing absolute wisdow that we need the best of the best to keep us entertained? :p

the game has some awkward moments, 2033... like i hated how the dog mutants moved and how they lost all their weight when they died

i hated the little rats that entered holes and came out from anywhere

and the stealth parts were not done too good... you never knew if that guy over there was going to see you or not, and the only way to know was trying. and if he did see you, you were dead and needing to restart from checkpoint

i did try to start it over and over because i was like "this game is worth trying harder to beat it", a bit like what i did with dark souls haha

Now in lastlight i got to a point in which the chicken in me didnt want to go forward... but i cant let the game beat me!

Damn those rats but what I found interesting is that they kept spwaning from nowhere when you stayed on the same spot but if you kept moving the spawns "adjusted" to you. I thought it was cool scripting...keep going or get overwhelmed.

I liked the game but didn't get very far. I simply got sick and tired of running out of ammo all the time. I just didn't have the patience for that kind of thing and I found no reasonable way to get ammo either. My little brain started to hurt so I quit.

Me too. I found it very depressing looking. I tried to play it, forced myself even but it was just dark and dreary. Felt like the game should ship with a prozac. No offense to anyone who really likes this game.

Just finished it...got the bad ending.
Can't see where i've been bad in the game lol.
I'll have to check where are the dpots where you have to act good.

Great game overall, I enjoyed every minutes in it and would probably replay it soon just to try and get a bit more achievements and the good ending.

I really liked both games, although I found Last Light to be less atmospheric than the first game. The dark lighting did not really bother me, but I recall that I did turn up the gamma at some expense in image quality. I finished both on the first try, but I have to admit that I did sort of cheat and played on easy difficulty. The times where I almost had to restart were when could not find where I had to go (I suck at pathfinding) and almost ran out of filters. I found running out of filters and getting the mask cracked more annoying than running out of ammo. I think ammo is a lot more scarce on higher difficulties though.

The lack of ammo was something I found really awesome. It added difficulty to the gameplay in a pretty unique way. You couldn't just spray and pray like with other shooters (which is what I usually do).

The best way to not run out of ammo (besides being accurate with your shots) is to explore...ammo is found all over the place but it does take some work to find. Sometimes it's strange....I mean really...who leaves a clip of ammo sitting in an ashtray?

Throwing knives are helpful too because you can recover them (usually).

I hated it. I just tried to play it a couple months ago. I suffered from some sort of bug where my gas mask was severely broken but my guy would never take it off. I had to load an earlier chapter to fix it. I made it to the part where you're under the train car as it's taking a bunch of guys off to fight in a battle, which I assume is 95% of the way through the game.

Ammo as currency is a shitty idea. The game is too dark. I had a lot of other complaints that I can't remember anymore. It was also very slow\boring.

Well... i think that is like one of the things the game does best. It really transmit that feeling of a screwed up world, without hope or future.

And i must admit, Metro2033 got one of my latest WOW moments in a videogame. The Shadow enemies, when they appear. WOW, that was such a cool effect, how they sticked to the surfaces and how i could only see them with the flashlight on

Metro 2033 was amazing. It's the first game in a while that, believe it or not, brought back the feelings I first felt while playing Zelda Twilight Princess, the atmosphere is dark and people don't have much to say, there's a lot of people around in both games, but I still feel so lonely and full of despair. It makes a pit in my chest that for some reason keeps me playing.
Metro last light was a good game, gorgeous visuals, but it missed almost everything 2033 did right, and didn't live up to the name.
