Ressurecting Zombie Dogs From Brain-Dead State

I read some article about scientists ressurecting dead dogs by first replacing their blood with some salty liquid, and later, when they were clinically declared dead, ressurecting them back. What's the deal with that? Isn't that cruel for the dogs?

dude... leave the videogames alone.

Resident Evil and all of those zombie dudes just... just don't leave anything nice.

Drop the games, I tell you.

Read the news some time... it's true.

BTW: yes they were fully braindead.

Well, we don't know that because the results of the experiment haven't actually been published. We don't know whether or not there was brain activity or not - indeed, as the experimets were carried out under anaesthetic - it's impossible to test for brain death, because anaesthetic drugs can give false results.

Looking at previous studies done by the same group, it appears they induced 'cessation of spontaneous circulation' which means they stopped the heart from beating and performed simulated CPR. Is that the same thing as being dead?

Dude, if they can do that, I want that done to me, too. I'll 'sleep' until the year 2100 and still look perfect 😀.

Well none of these experiments had animals that were THAT dead, imean, we all think of zombies as things that have been dead for a long time, with highly decomposed bodies. These animals where simply revived, its like that movie where a bunch of ppl "kill" and revive each other to research what you see when you are technically dead...if that makes any sense to any of you (a cookie for the person who can find me the name of this movie)

None of these experiments seem that amazing. Only when they are able to either preserve and revive living things (cryogenics) or dig them out of the ground and reanimate them (zombies!) will I be impressed or extremely terrified, respectively.

Edit: w00t i have been promoted to "Member"!

I wonder, is there any report of brain damage on these animals? I would think that lack of oxygen would cause serious problems rather quickly. Also, can someone link me to the article?

well from reading the small crappy non scientific article it looks retilitvly promising. Im thinking that this could be used in space travel. If it could be automoated

Flatliners.

Choclate chip please.

I'm not sure about this, but because they replace the blood with the saline solution that is only 7c, the australian article says that all their organs and such are preserved. I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to advance out of saline to something better that could keep the organs and body parts preserved until warmed up.

Really begs the question of what is death doesnt it?
I always had the opinion when your brain waves ceased you were dead.

I wonder how affected the brains of these animals are. Do they lose their memory ect?

One of the articles said that the dogs were perfectly normal after being revived. There were experiments done with this earlier and the maximum time for revival with the pure saline solution was 2 hours. They added some other ingredients to the solution and increased the time to 3 hours.

I read this in a scientific america they had a whole artical on the new findings that they found if they totally removed oxgen from a cell it wouldn't break down and enter a stasis state. what kills is low oxygen which causes the cells to for free raticals witch are bad.

what they did with the dogs was put them under and stop thier heart. then removed all the blood from thier body and replaced it with a fluid that would not contain any oxygen. the result is since the cells have no oxygen they went into a sort of stasis. when the introduced the blood back in and restarted the dogs heart all was well and the celss restarted.

The medical use for this is prolly first going to be for organ transplants, if you can get them into an enviroment devoid of any oxygen they should last alot longer outside the body. But this could also be used to put trama patients in a state of stasis while docters repair internal bleeding and other injuries that would not be able to be repaired fast enough to save the person
