Here's an idea:

Make the box for responses resized so that it will reflect the width of the post.

right now, it is hard to gauge where the line will end. If it was resized appropriately it would be possible to do this an thus end sentances a word earlier to make things look cleaner.

I like that idea as well, however for it to do the job properly, I think it would require having the text box that you enter your reply/post into be in the same variable width font as all of the posts are. However, if it would be possible to do such a thing, I'd love being able to know just how my post is going to look before I enter it in.
 
Another thought.... that's why there's the Edit function. If you don't like the way your post looks after you post it, just go back and edit it to make it look better. Nobody's perfect, so it's not like you'll get flamed for editing your message.
